The Challenge
I have become increasingly impressed with the quality of talent that I see out there every day in the online blog world so today I am offering a challenge and a “featured” reward to those who write (as in almost every single one of you, lol). THE CHALLENGE: Write a poem, your own creative version of Unrequited Love (When it comes to Love, nothing is sadder or more potentially tragic than to have your love not returned by the one whom you love).
A few days ago, on the first day of September, I wrote of a (pretend) conversation going on in my head between my “muse” and my “imagination”. It was for fun and included two poems, each written from their varying perspectives. The “muse” – from a female gender perspective and “imagination” – a male gender perspective (hey, don’t read anything into the gender thing going on there. Well okay, read a little something into it if you want to – lol)
Since I wrote these two poems however I’ve been uncomfortable because I tried to write each poem from those (mythical) perspectives. So today with both my muse and my imagination working together I am in a full and completely creative mode. My challenge … to surpass the two short poems written previously on Unrequited Love,
Your Challenge, should you choose to accept, is to send me your own creative version of Unrequited Love. Email all entries to penny1717howe@gmail.com. This can be a poem you’ve already written or something new, The challenge will stay open until September 14th, The winning entries will be featured a few days later here on my blog with attached short bio’s about each of the writers and of course a link to their blog! So come on all of you, show me your stuff!
But first my offering in this challenge of creativity:
Shattered Dreams
You
all I was,
all I thought,
all I tasted, all I felt,
all I dreamed.
you,
only you
the essence of you
everything.
nothing now,
I lay broken
in pieces,
shattered dreams
splinters of time,
withering
Our dreams of love,
forever
gone,
passionate emptiness
pain
exquisitely tormenting,
empty tears
suffer
a broken soul,
I
cease
to be
me!

Great Idea Penny. I just loved your poem. Those last few lines were very heart touching. Beautiful poetry!
Thank you Arindam, each word I write, to me is a personal expression of how I am as a person, at least I try to make it so! Again my thanks for your compliments. Penny
I now realise it’s next Saturday and that here is a theme! I’ll see if any inspiration hits me! 🙂

I am in! BTW, that is a lovely poem
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Celestine, there are a handful of writers that I am so hopeful will enter, you are one of them, again thank you! :), and also thanks for the nice compliment about my poem, much appreciated my friend!
Sounds like a fun challenge! I’m off to go feel unrequited and I’ll be back with something… 🙂
By the way Penny, a very nice poem. I like how the words are shaped like a dagger, suble but effective.
Thanks, I love to mix things up creatively but always with symmetry, glad you noticed this! 🙂 I will look forward to your entry, thank you so much for taking on the challenge! 🙂 good luck finding an unrequited muse, Penny 🙂
I would like to submit an entry, but am not sure whether it’ll be good enough to meet your standards.

Such a great piece of writing Penny ~ really could feel your intention with every word. Nice challenge too! I am doubtful I will be able – though would love to. Facing some rocky stuff here … Seems like one thing on top of the other. Sad to say i will likely need to take a leave of absence for a bit. Will see how I am by weekend and post to announce… but just has been impossible to focus on much else but the physical. I will always check in on your posts when I can — xxoo Much Love sweet friend ~
All my thoughts and prayers are with you my friend, I’m on the other end of this country but if there is anything, anything, I can do please let me know. I am hopeful that these things will be resolved,I know you will do whatever is necessary and you have many friends who will pray and think positive thoughts for you here online, and most of all my firstest, bestest online friend take care of you, I love you so much…I want you to be all better soonest Robyn, xxxoooxxx Penny

Please Rosy, I’ll be begging those I really want to try in a few days and that would just look pathetic, don’t you think? I really am looking forward to what you’ll come up with, thanks so much, Penny 🙂
LOL – I’m feeling that virtual arm twist now too.
Oh goodie, Yay!!!!!!
This indeed sounds like a challenge. I’ll have to give this one some thought… 🙂
Excellent! it’s for fun and I would reallllly like to see your creative talents here! Just remember to enjoy the process! Penny 🙂
This is an interesting idea Penny. Not sure I am up to it but I might give it a whirl! Your poetry, as always, is so moving. Have a blessed day. 🙂

Great poem, Penny, and interesting challenge.
But if you look at AnElephant’s blog in an hour or so, you will see why he cannot enter.
Look forward to seeing the best of them.
Hugs
I am not convinced, however I accept with graciousness your decision my friend! Sending warm wishes your way, Penny 🙂
Hopefully you have mine :-$
I would sincerely hope so Mondrak, did you happen to notice that I absolutely love the new “look” of your blog? 🙂
I did, thank you 🙂 I haven’t finished with it yet. 🙂
Can’t wait to see more! 🙂
Great idea Penny, I love your poem at the end of the post too.
Thanks Chris, I hope you will decide to enter, I’d love to see your work here, truly! Oh by the way was it your birthday yesterday? If so, a belated happy birthday to you my friend, Penny 🙂
I will try my best. I won’t force anything, mine tend to come through feelings. 🙂
I’m thinking this is a good one for you to explore your creative talents with, thru the use of your written words. No forcing, go with the flow my friend, Penny 🙂
I went with the flow and it just fell out. LOL. Christina has heard it, bit I’m not putting it up anywhere. I was impressed with myself, although reading it aloud afterwards I wasn’t so keen LOL. But that could be because I don’t like the sound of my voice haha.
Can it be unrequited love that is not the romantic kind? (ie. friendship or family etc.)
This sounds like a fun challenge! ~ Wendy
Wide open interpretation. Anything you wish, go for it my friend! For fun and the creative challenge! Penny 🙂
🙂 nice idea !
Thank you Stefan. Penny 🙂
I’m in…..
F
Excellente, my friend. and thank you, I look forward to reading your words! Penny 🙂
I like the paradoxes here… passionate emptiness… exquisitely tormenting… yes, very well put… perfectly sums up those unrequited feelings… not sure I could write something… not because I haven’t experienced those feelings, but simply because I don’t know if I could reconnect with those feelings at this point in time… I hope you understand… but I’ll look forward to reading the responses 🙂
No worries Richard, it’s about having fun and hopefully allowing some very talented writers to practice and stretch their skill, This is not an easy subject (on purpose) so I’m looking forward to those who decide to give it a go! To be a good writer, or an artist, or photographer or anything creative there is some discipline involved with reference to knowing when to go with the flow and when to organize. Also there’s some training involved in allowing your mind to open up and see all the creative opportunities. See fun! 🙂
Absolutely! 🙂
I think I might have something that fits here. Challenge excepted.
Excellent, I look forward to your entry. Thank you, Penny 🙂
I will wait for the winning entries! 🙂
Hey Somesh, how have things been going for you? Good I hope. Thanks for visiting, I owe you a visit too 🙂
Quite good! coz nothing is going bad for me 🙂
Great, that is what really matters isn’t it my friend! 🙂
Yeah 🙂
Hmmmmm. My poems have only been about pain & chronic ill health, so I’ll give this one a miss.
Besides I’ve never been in love (only in lust – lol).
I wish you’d reconsider, I have a hunch you’d write something very good Victoria, utilizing one pain in place of another, just think about it my friend, it is about writing and hopefully enjoying the process of being creative. Penny, 🙂
