In Greek Mythology Aphrodite was asked to provide the name for this loveliest of all flowers. She gave the name of rose in honor of her son Eros, the Greek god of Love. By taking the first letter “e” and having it come after the “s” in his name you get – rose. An excellent tale, but for whatever the reason, the rose is considered the flower of love.
Roses are many millions of years old. They are beautiful flowers and come in many colors, shades and hues. There are thousands of varieties. But a rose … is a rose … is a rose and the eternal symbol of love!
“The rose speaks of love silently, in a language known only to the heart.” unknown
“If you stand in front of a mirror with 11 roses, you’ll see 12 of the most beautiful things in the world.” unknown
What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” Shakespeare

I think the chocolate roses will add
a sense of wickedness to any evening,
or perhaps strawberries dipped…

It’s a great quote, I wish I knew who said it also! Thank you Robyn, Much love to you, xo
My mum’s favourite flower was the rose. I am going to plant one in my front garden on her birthday this year, just for her. Mum died nearly 38 years ago and I still miss her so this post made me all teary. It also brought back back some wonderful memories. Thank you.
You’re welcome, so very much. My mom did too. I’d bring her roses in a planter because she said she preferred to enjoy roses still growing in the ground. She’d take my gift and plant them outside. Memories are wonderful things. I know you’ll plant an especially beautiful one for her! 🙂
“If you stand in front of a mirror with 11 roses, you’ll see 12 of the most beautiful things in the world.” unknown Man I should have been accredited with this one… why didn’t I think of it… as for the chocolate roses… mmm .. those must be the best… lovely post…
Thank you. I’ll bet it’s something you’d say too, Bulldog! xx
I love roses. I love photographing them so as to see the beauty up close and keep it for eternity.
There is just one flower
The cause of many a prose
With love it can empower
The beautiful, elegant, Rose.
Sorry, just thought of that so decided to add it.
Hope you are all well, and have a great day Penny.
All is well, busy but happily so Alastair, you have a great evening also! 🙂
Yes I am way…way…way behind today. Still haven’t done my Tuesday Teaser yet :-\
Rose and chocolates! A perfect duo.
I agree, completely! 🙂
High five! 🙂
I can almost smell them! I love the homegrown varieties that have fragrance. Most roses sold today have had the fragrance removed, which is truly sad! Wonderful post Penny! Hugs – B
Thank you Barb, that would be great if we could smell these lovely roses as well, hugs to you dear friend! xx
