Have you ever noticed …

… how frequently people point out what’s wrong with something or someone.

Wouldn’t it be great if instead of pointing to the negative things all the time, we heard more people talk about what was right. The positive things. There are good things happening too, every day. We have but to look and see it through the eyes of (oh say) a child. Where every day brings wonders to behold.

Or someone who appreciates what they are lucky enough to have in life. And not grumble about what they don’t. It’s really that simple. And here’s a few more quotes from some very wise people to consider:

“Wherever you go, no matter what the weather,
always bring your own sunshine.” ~ Anthony J. D’Angelo
*
“It’s so hard when I have to,
and so easy when I want to.” ~ Annie Gottlier
*
“Every day may not be good,
but there’s something good in every day.” ~ Author Unknown
*
“If you don’t like something change it;
if you can’t change it, change the way you think about it.” ~Mary Engelbreit
*
“We are all in the gutter,
but some of us are looking at the stars.”  ~Oscar Wilde
*
“The only disability in life
is a bad attitude.”  ~Scott Hamilton
*
“I don’t think of all the misery
but of the beauty that still remains.”  ~Anne Frank

If one of the most famously read and written about young girls (Anne Frank and her diary), who had no reason whatsoever to think positive and be hopeful, could still share this beautiful thought in her diary, then surely our lives aren’t so bad that we can’t too.

Find something or someone to be positive about. Think and speak positive not negative! It might just catch on. Wouldn’t that be a wonderful thing!

Thank you stopping by, I hope you’re having a wonderful day today!

  1. Wonderful, motivational post and thoughts, Penny! I agree with you and all of your quotes are awesome. It’s amazing how Anne Frank could think up such positivity when it’s so easy for us to complain about the most trivial things in our lives. Thanks for the lovely reminder with that adorable photo! Hugs!

  2. A positive attitude is the only way to live. Now having said that, I don’t always seem to be able to practice what I preach, but I certainly make that my aim. BTW, I like your new theme. It looks vaguely familiar. 🙂

  3. Good points as always, it is a philosophy that I can live by…I need to read that diary 9one I won’t feel guilty about reading). Anything can be beautiful if viewed in the right way.

  4. I agree, Penny, there is so much that is positive to revel and rejoice in. This is one of the big problems with news coverage, I think, only rarely do we see good news stories. I think we need to hear both. I don’t hold with unalloyed and unrealistic positivity or constant unremitting negativity – I’d like to see more balance and accuracy. Have a great week my friend! xx

    • You are (as always) correct Ruth. Balance is the thing And as you point out, the sad truth today is trying to keep positive “at all” seems to be the struggle of so many. You also have an excellent week my friend! xx

  5. Yes !!! So much sums up my desired approach to life Penny ~ Anne Frank was a brilliant young girl. My famous motto here, and used frequently while raising my girls “put on your ‘see the good’ glasses” ~ Still try to live by this whenever things get a bit dim. Thank you Penny – beautiful insightful and uplifting post – as always!!! Love to you ~ x Robyn

  6. I’m a great believer in positive thinking. If you think positive, positive things will happen. Works for me. Wonderful post.

    • Hi Lisa, you are so very welcome my dear friend. It has been an extremely hectic week for me, and hopefully will improve this coming week. Not “bad” just a very busy one. How are you doing? I hope all is well, Love to you, Penny

  7. I keep thinking that so often when I hear someone complain again and grumble. And then when I point out the positive side, I am told I am too positive. No such thing!!!! Shame to go through life in a negative way. I am not giving up though , eventually they will see life is much better when you have a positive attitude! Your quotes are all perfect well known quotes fitting for this! Have an amazing day, Penny!

      • It’s a beautiful morning here. Although I did panic when I went to wake my son up and he wasn’t there. Then his sister reminded me that he stayed at his mother’s last night 😳 lol

Hope you have had a good day today and a better day tomorrow

  8. It’s all about being glass half full people. Being innately positive and optimistic helps a lot, but seeing the good is a perception that can be learned. When my daughter was a newborn, and basically not sleeping at night for 3 months, my doctor told me to find at least one good thing in every day. These days I tend to find a million good things every day, but even on the worst days I can find at least one. 🙂

  9. Such a positive post. Yes, you are right, our western culture conditions us to be dissatisfied, hence we moan and whine about what we haven’t got or other people’s behaviour. Compared to the rest of the world I am SO lucky and I should celebrate my good fortune every day. Or, as Eric Idle sang in the Monty Python’s ‘The Life of Brian’ movie, “Always look on the bright side of life, de dum, de dum, de dum, de dum, de dum.” 🙂 🙂

  10. “Every day may not be good, but there’s something good in every day.”
“I don’t think of all the misery but of the beauty that still remains.”

Live by this everyday and you will be as happy as me…

  11. Hello Penny, Great post and so true that we should act this way. Everyday is a good day for me. One gets vertical, all my bits work, I have breakfast. From there it is onwards and upwards. Enjoy your day.

    • Hi, I like your … getting vertical and all the bits work … no actually I love it! I hope your day was a good one and that your week starts off well for you! 🙂

Thank you for your thoughts!
