Quotes by the Dalai Lama ~ to share!

The most caring and compassionate person I have ever met! The  Honorable Dalai Lama! His kind and loving spirit, an excellent reminder to all of us on how to conduct our lives. (That’s me, the pale blonde on the right, the young lady next to me, my granddaughter!). Sharing here some of my favorite of his quotes:

*

“Be kind whenever possible – it’s always possible.”

*

“Our prime purpose in life is to help others, if you can’t help them, at least don’t hurt them.”

*

“Old friends pass away, new friends appear. It is just like the days. An old day passes, a new day arrives. The important thing is to make it meaningful: a meaningful friend – or a meaningful day.”

*

I find hope in the darkest of days, and focus in the brightest. I do not judge the universe.

*

Where ignorance is our master, there is no possibility of real peace.

  1. So beautiful and true every single word that man says.
    🙂
If we could all live by these basic fundamentals, imagine how happy we would all be? How wonderful to have personally met the man!

Love and many hugs to you, Penny! Paula xxx

  2. Your experience in meeting the Dali Lama is something most of us can dream about. Good for you Penny, like most people he has the ability to impress anyone who comes into his presence. My favourite story about him is the answer to the question: Why does the Dali Lama always have a smile on his face? The answer is he gets the joke! Life is understandable to him, the rest of us are trying to keep up and understand the question. Enjoy your day, I think it will be Tuesday?? Take care. M

  3. What a wonderful experience it must have been to visit with and be in the presence of such a peacefully wise man.

Stopping by your place is a breath of fresh air. Especially after working outside. I’m still plugging away at trying to clean up part of a large tree that fell – partly in the neighbors yard, who complained that it was still there…
Though not hurting anyone, while it did already kill her grass that it fell on.
Such is life. It doesn’t matter that she rarely uses that part of her lawn or that isn’t even the ‘best’ manicured lawn…just that she perhaps having a bad day…express the wish that it got removed. Even after knowing that we can’t get professionals in until the ground freezes and that my husband travels.

At least I did get to visit a prompt and write another sort of semi-historical haibun:

  4. Wow!!! You’re a lucky lady:-) Thanks for sharing some of his gems – a very special human being. I understand he meditates something like four hours before he even begins his day and takes Bodhisattva vows daily too. Inspiration is too small a word…But as another Buddhist teacher said, ‘Your friends don’t want you to be a Buddhist, they want you to be a Buddha’. It’s not about following rules…it’s about living it, being it with each breath…

    • Thank you. I am indeed. My pleasure to share with others. He is very special. Yes he does. Much too small a word. His love and joy of life and all things living he exudes with every word and action he takes.

  5. A few I love from my favourite _ Mahatma Gandhi
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”

“First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win.”

and then the one I love… “Never travel faster than your guardian angel can fly.” ― Mother Teresa

  6. i am so jealous and amazed you are so lucky my lovely friend you have met the one person i would love to meet! i would be dumbstruck in his presence though but how absolutely wonderful for you would you tell us more on how where when ? ^_^ i would love to know and once again thank you for your lovely posts have a super day my friend xx

    • Hi Kizzy, so good to have you here. You have been a very busy beaver when it comes to your books (and creativity my dear friend)!

Meeting him was a fortunate and lucky thing, a few years ago he was in Washington D.C. on a special trip to meet with leaders, attend a fund-raising event, as well as visit with a group of scientists (he’s fascinated by science and the workings of the brain) – anyway – through some connections of connections, it was set up and I flew back there to meet him, attend a few functions, etc. A most special time for me! I spent just a little time with him, but a fair amount of time with his entourage and his personal photographer, oh, what wonderful stories they shared with me! 🙂
