I dreamt of dreaming within a dream. Upon awakening, I was still asleep in my dream. How can this be? How can I know this to be?
To attempt to explain my dream within a dream is to understand. The beauty of each thought, distinct and clear. I could touch my thoughts, a tactile sensation, in no manner limited to the surreal. this not achievable when awake. This I cannot accomplish in my dreams. But in my dream within a dream where reality is not only dispensed in the manner of dreams, playing out emotional recollections and fragmented incompletions of thoughts and emotions – the vista of what is … pales into what is not – but adds also to the element of what may be.
It is the – may be – that allows for a recognition of the possibility of a dream within a dream. Like floating through gravity. As if unfixed in position but poised in another reality, not of my mind’s manufacture. Exploring a universe of unknowns, an infinity of un-thought-of’s!
If my dream state can conjure a dream within itself then surely there can be no limitations of any sensation, so all is an unknown but as I experience, it becomes a – may be. And so I say to you, I dreamt in my dream that I was dreaming.
To experience this is quite outside any possible comparative value of which to relate. I stumble on through collective known words and expressions, doing my utmost to describe something tangibly intangible. A paradox. No, not a paradox. For in a paradox there is a juxaposition of explanation that calls for specific values therefore explained in measured terms. But a dream within a dream, has no comparison to reference.
I am bemused as I think on a method of further explanation. How does one explain an unexplainable experience so that it becomes believable when it is outside the guidelines of what is known?
Unless you say most simply I had a dream within a dream beyond the limits of reality, beyond the realm of the known but within the ‘may be’ of my potentiality, a greater value than that of existing and being. A value more than the sum of all that is unspoken, unrealized and unknown, but may be … one day.

my eyes just went into dream mode with your psychedelic art images…ha-ha. but then, maybe it’s a dream? thankfully i do not remember my dreams. 🙂
There you go, a dream in a dream … in a dream. lol! Sigh mine play out in brilliant color ever night, it’s what I wake up to in the morning! You’d think I’d be used to it by now! 🙂
ah, lucky you can dream so freely….and in color! Wow! 🙂
I thought everyone did when I was a child. I remember being surprised to find out this wasn’t the case! 🙂
we humans…so fascinating. 😆
I want what you’re having!

And I laugh, totally totally laughing and more laughter here RoSy, and again you make my day! 🙂 xo
there is all the logic of our unmanifest desires outting in a dream…but I think they are magic, and portals into other worlds, realities…It is through dreaming i can say emphatically there is another place beyond this one…and it is wonderful. It is a beach…just so you know…;)…and flying requires only quick, side-to-side pivots in rhythm…:)
I love your other place, love it! 🙂
Dreams within dreams can be so informative as we remember those more

Dreams to me are so real, but are so unexplainable…:)
Yes, sigh, right there with you! They are indeed!
I’ve had similar dreams. I enjoyed reading about yours.
Thank you, it was fun to try to express myself, that can be interesting – to say the least! 🙂
A totally arresting post – its theme and presentation. And the idea itself… surreal and scientific.
‘A dream within a dream’ is one of my favorite poems by Edgar Allan Poe.
The second verse I put here:
‘….Amidst the surf-tormented shore I stand
And I hold within my hand
grains of the golden sand,
How few!Yet how they creep
through my fingers to the deep.
While I weep! While I weep!
Oh god! if only I could clasp them with
a tighter grasp!
Oh god! can I not save one from
the pitiless wave?
Is all we see or seem
but a dream within a dream?’
Have a peace-filled weekend!
Thanks mj, you summed the creative me up – surreal and scientific, I go back and forth with my thoughts! Yes Poe was brilliant, wasn’t he? Always on the edge, his words beautiful, symbolic and gorgeous to read and reread. You also an excellent and relaxing week my friend! xx
