When Did It Become Okay?

image

When did it become okay to eat chemically processed food? Food that we know, for a fact is chemically processed, but oh so amazingly  convenient – a part of our modern addictive lifestyle and easily available with very little effort on our part.

What is food today in Consumer Land (you know – right here, right now)?

Food (a loose interpretation): Items bought packaged for longer shelf life in megastores and minimarts. Food bought at fast food locations. Food grown and sprayed with poisonous pesticides and processed using artificial methods and mutiple chemical additives for flavor enhancements and longevity.

image

When did it become okay to make money off of treating and healing sick people? Or worse, not seeing them at all if they haven’t got the right insurance.

When did it become okay to not be able to afford to take your animal to the vet? When did it become okay to buy products (almost everything) with built-in, short term obsolescence … guaranteeing you’ll buy the “new & improved” version?

Not only are too few of us not thinking about cause and effect, even more of us are not seeing beyond our nose, or should I say the view screen of our smartphones, tablets, computers, television, and so on. Not my opinion, just absolutely true facts!

“It saddens me when, as a race, we humans have been given so many advantages and yet our worst emotions still rule us.”~ Plh

Greed (now called profit margins & for us lesser folks, the constant seeking for a “better quality of life”)
Laziness (now called convenience)
Sloth (now called comfort)
Hatred (against anything and everything you don’t like or fear)

And so we’re left with our own personal rationales for why we do what we do, as we each (more or less) contribute to our downfall.

image

Wake up! Open your minds, your heart and your awareness. We can bring about dramatic improvements, if we want to, or continue to be harbingers of our eventual failure as a human race.

As always – our own individual choice to make.

Why You Should Hurry up and Slow Down!

image

You should try sitting still – for just a few minutes every day – rest your body & mind and while you’re sitting there, try reflecting on the WHY of what you do every day. You may surprise yourself with some of your answers.

image

We live in a crazy hurry up world. And its not slowing down. But you can. All that’s needed is a little bit of preplanning to remove from your life whatever isn’t helping right now, be it an activity, certain thought processes, or a person.

1. Activities – Anything you do that is done out of habit, and not necessary or helpful to you, think about letting it go.

You might also consider the amount of time you spend with social media, just sayin’.

If you are constantly called upon to do favors for others, who don’t reciprocate in their turn, regarding your needs, start saying no to them. Doing things for others is nice, but can be very time consuming (this includes family members).

2. Worries – If you spend a fair amount of time worrying about things then it’s time to make a list and see which of those worrisome things you can actually do something about. Effort on your part will be required, but the end result is you’ll have less things to worry about.

3. People – There are people out there with poor attitudes and an overall negative outlook on life. You don’t need these people around you. They’ll go out of their way to tell you what you’re doing wrong or what’s wrong with you or someone, or something you care about.

Dump them. You don’t need them or their negativity. And chances are they’re also one of the items you spend time worrying about so you’ll have removed two things that take away precious time, a person(s) and an item on your worries list (this also includes family members).

image

Bottom line here is value yourself highly by BALANCING your needs with time spent. If you aren’t good to yourself, those you do care about will suffer – as will you.

Thank you for stopping by, have a great time saving day!

The Wisdom of Yesterday – Lost or just forgotten?

yesterday

*

“Yesterday is many things, a memory, a part of our journey, a learned lesson.

But the one thing it should never be … forgotten!” ~ Penny

*

The technology of today is exciting, and no doubt it will be even more exciting tomorrow.

But today I’d like to briefly mention the very transitory period of time in which we (you and I) will be here. So to what purpose do we allow inundation of  newness? It is one thing to improve communication and other technological marvels, quite another to become so immersed within it, that the focus of reality is pitched into virtuality and the next “new thing”.

And I might add at considerable expense in terms of quality of life in our “real world” (you know the one removed from artificial things – if that’s even possible). Health, relationships, values, ecology, life on this planet – all these and more are taking a beating here.

The future looks good only if we do pay attention to the wisdom of yesterday. Lots of beautiful quotes out there in multimedia land, wise words from the past, but again to what purpose if they’re just pretty words reflected upon in the moment.

Turn off your electronic devices for a portion of each day. Focus on things happening in your immediate vicinity.

See … really see … your today, unfettered by online influences. Decide how you can change your life and others for the better.

Your today will soon be yesterday, and we don’t want it to be forgotten!

With much affection to you,

~ Penny

Your Thoughts – the main influencing factor in your life!

Did you know that? I’ll bet you didn’t. Like most of  us we assume others around us are our main influencers, or that the particular circumstances or conditions we find ourselves in are responsible for why we think or feel a certain way.

Nope. It’s you. All by your lonesome, you’re the one that decides how you’re going to feel about whatever it is! All the other things are just stimuli that your mind takes into consideration before it decides what to do or not do and how it is to be done.

Consider your thoughts in the form of a pill you take each morning. A success pill that then influences your thinking positively.

This imaginary pill is your reminder that its up to you. You, who is the main influence in your life. Let it work in your favor! It worked for Einstein, DaVinci, Disney, Shakespeare, Plato. I could go on and on but the point is obvious. You decide what you want and then you make it happen. You Do!

So go ahead, be all you can be … it’s a great feeling … Take the success pill, influence yourself to achieve, set yourself up for success, as Napoleon Hill said repeatedly “think and grow rich”. He knew what he was talking about. And if you haven’t read his book (of the same title), go get it and read it from cover to cover. It’s one of the top selling books, ever, on the planet, so he definitely must have known what he was talking about.

Go for it, influence yourself to success. You’re in charge and you make it happen. a) because you believe you can and b) because you put those positive thoughts into action c) because you don’t give up (Don’t forget about Edison and his failures before his final breakthrough with the lightbulb).

Just 3 things to remember, you can do it. You know you can!

Have a great day today,

Penny

Part 2 -The False Complacency of Obsolescence – What we really NEED!

By RyanMBevan

Part Two -Our greatest need is …

To Be Valued And Loved!

The two do go together, having a value and being loved. Yet in a world filled with people, our greatest need goes unfulfilled. And unfortunately, around the planet, it is children and adults (in fact all life) who are unloved and found valueless that are suffering from starvation, disease, abuse, poverty and death.

It is the children and adults in the larger inner cities that go homeless and hungry, abused and mistreated because they believe themselves to be (and in many cases are shown to be) unloved and having no value.

It is the many working adults and their children struggling to make ends meet in our ever changing environment who undervalue themselves, feeling unloved and wondering how to make everything be okay … Just okay.

It is the condition of false complacency that underlies – allowing all of these things to continue.

Bottom line, without exception we ALL need Love and a sense of purpose because we matter, and many of us need to be told this and have it visibly demonstrated in order to really believe it. And that isn’t happening the way it should.

Money doesn’t matter, let me repeat this so it’s a little clearer … MONEY DOESN’T MATTER after the basics I mentioned are attended to. If civilization as a whole is feeling forgotten, unloved and of no value, it’s because money has achieved a greater importance than the loving arms of someone holding you with true affection, a firm handshake of fellowship and positive connections being made across the lines of those who think differently than we do.

Humanity cannot truly move forward as long as the accumulation of wealth and material items for its own sake (which begets greed, the need to control and of course war and subsequent human loss and casualties) is viewed as the primary goal to success.

Loving and caring more. Sharing more. Encouraging more. Realizing you do need a lot less material items in your life. Being there for family and friends. Reaching out. Making a positive difference. THAT’S WHAT IS ULTIMATELY GOING TO MOVE EARTH SOCIETY FORWARD.

Currently the biggest problems we are dealing with have to do with complacency, apathy, indifference, greed and laziness and of course the belief that all things have a predetermined shelf life, including us. These problems in turn have caused all the other problems we find so overwhelming and … as is most generally the case, we are the root cause.

Ironically, happiness is always found in the simple things in life, and those things turn out to be the most important!

Seek value in everyday things. Recapture worth by finding it within yourself and others. Love, reach out, share, care – be there for family and friends. In the process you’ll discover your own heart filling with love. A heart filled with love has no room for hate. A mind filled with thoughts of giving and sharing has no room for greed or complacency. And achieving purpose that is filled with making a positive difference, finds value and worth in all things and all life … as it should be.

Much love to you this day thank you for reading,

~ Penny

My Very Best Advice!

Preparing with positive thoughts and emotional imagining.

When you wake up in the morning do you prepare for the day to come? No … I don’t mean the usual grooming, dressing, breaking fast, and so on. I mean do you prepare for THE DAY – as in … “this is the first day of the rest of your life” day.

Do you think on what you will bring to the day today? Do you imagine the potential for making new discoveries about yourself and others?

Do you see yourself exploring new boundaries by shaking off the old, tried and true, unchanging parts of the past that you find yourself caught up in?

Your emotions are key to letting go the negative that can affect you. Remember what you feel inside are “your emotions” created by “your feelings” about what has been happening in “your life”. The common denominator here is YOU. And what you’re going to do about it.

Do you think about the personal power that you own? This absolute power you have – a power that hovers inside each of us – waiting to burst forth to inspire and influence. Do you think about who you can become? Right now! Just by taking control of your emotions and directing them towards positive thoughts and action.

file000244526190Do you know in your heart-of-hearts that you can and will have a good day and that you will help others to have a good day also? Do you know that you will be there if a friend or stranger has need of you?

Do you prepare for possible adversity by planning to be brave and strong?

Are you preparing yourself for laughter? At yourself, at other’s whimsies, at life’s misadventures and for no reason at all except that it makes you feel good to laugh and hear others laugh around you?

And when you’ve finished preparing for the day … do you begin? To make your life happen?

If not, than you haven’t prepared for the day at all. It will be someone else’s preparation that you will follow and adhere to: Someone else’s power, someone else’s opinions. And your dreams?

Well, I guess they’ll wait until another day! But I hope not. Because I know and believe inside you is something great just waiting for a signal from you to come out and begin!

Just imagine what happens then!

The Practice of Practicing!

It’s all about the practice of things!

I will not give in

I’ll practice each day,

no matter the problems

coming my way.

I’ll practice and practice,

I shall not fail.

Watch me go to it,

blazing my trail.

*

You can practice being successful, getting better and better at a thing or you can practice not doing much of anything at all, because in the end it is about practicing, repeating, improving upon, strengthening, over and over until it becomes a habit.

It doesn’t happen any other way.

*

So practice! Believe in your self! Set goals and then practice!

See yourself being successful! And don’t under any circumstances let anyone else stop you! Not ever!

Begin today. Create your own habit of practicing success!

Have an excellent week ahead,

The Rightness of Wrong

The Commercial Human

“When a thing is right for all the wrong reasons

then it is surely wrong for all the right reasons

 – and is there a difference in our natures,

we humans should be attending to?”

A great many words float about everywhere.

And photos and videos surely to spare.

quotes are abounding, good sayings so wise,

information is shared in all sorts of guise.

~

Then why am I troubled with all that there be,

Many bits and pieces – worrisome to me.

~

Too much, too much, my poor mind screams,

Can not take more – what does this mean?

It cannot be thought right to move at this pace,

We are advertising commercials filling all space.

~

Slow down, slow down, we really must pause,

For every effect, there is a cause.

I mean what I say but how can this be?

It’s easy of course, the blind cannot see.

Perhaps it is time to remove the artificial from our eyes and look to one another for that which is needed, so that all of life (including us) can survive and thrive!

The Undertow of Life’s Flow – How to Cope!

ebb and flow

~

Ah, the ebbs and flows of our lives.

Pretty much on a regular basis we find ourselves wondering how to cope with the unexpected “new something” that has just occurred, potentially rendering havoc of all manner and kind.

So here’s a thought: Consider becoming more flexible, with both your thinking and your actions or should I say reaction (humans are very reactionary by nature).

Consider adapting to your life experiences instead of rigidly always sticking to a previously determined game plan. There are no guarantees in one’s life. No sure thing. Often you get to where you want to be – by going the (perceived) wrong way!

Who knew?

Well, personally I do have more than just a bit of a clue (Alastair, of “A Mixed Bag” has it on good authority – his own, and I do appreciate the compliment, that I am originally from another planet – perhaps, LOL – where we are ahead of earth beings in various matters) however, regarding the subject of “Going With The Flow”, I believe this is something you should learn for yourself. Don’t take my other worldy word for it.

contemplation

The next time life leaps up and takes a bite out of you, don’t be so quick to fight it. Look beyond the obvious of what is happening. Is it an opportunity in disguise? Is it a clue to change directions? Is it a hint to pay more attention to a thing that would be beneficial to you in the long run. You can’t know if you stay too restrictive with your decisions, can you?

Just something to think on – at least a little – every now and then – in between your being social correct.

One more thought:

Your Life

the Page you’re on … should always be your own.

This is your life … Your Write of Passage” ~ PennyQuote, 2014

A very special friend of mine, Lisa, of Playamart – Zeebra Designs, whose current home is in Ecuador, suggested the following post be added to this one. I agree completely with her. http://playamart.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/the-undertow/. Definitely of value and worth the clicking through and reading! Thank you, Lisa.

I, in my aloneness, part II – my bicameral mind.

“introspectable mind-space”

At the risk of having lost a few of you. I’d like to explain the bicameral mind.  Julian Jaynes explained this as a different, non-conscious mental schema where volition, in the face of novel stimuli, mediated through a linguistic control mechanism (we made sounds) and experienced as auditory verbal hallucinations. Passing from the right hemisphere of the brain to the left (the introspective thought). He referred to this as man reacting in a bicameral (two chambers involved in creating and accepting a hypothetical idea) manner. The right coming up with an abstract idea and conveying it in an acceptable way to the left side of the brain.

Okay, now having lost the rest of you, I’ll explain. I’m left-handed, placing a stronger emphasis on right brain thinking. Many believe “imagination” (and hallucinations) have their roots there. Point in fact, Julian Jaynes (1920-1997) was an American psychologist who referenced different states of consciousness (I’m simplifying things here) and how they interact with one another from the two halves of our brain. Beginning with the right hemisphere for the bicameral mind.

Most people are right handed which means that the left side of their brain is the dominant hemisphere. Being left handed I’m located in the remaining 3 percent of the population where the right side of my brain is dominant. But even more rare, according to several I.Q. tests conducted at an earlier age, is the possibility that both sides of my brain are dominant, in that they work and play well together.

This is a good thing. I think about everything and explore my thinking thoughts a great deal. And a bad thing, because I find everything has  introspective value, as well as subjective.

This has created havoc my entire life, of course. Because almost nothing is viewed as linear, everything has a potential matrix with depth and possibilities attached to it. I’d have made a great theoretical physicist if I enjoyed math a little more, but I digress (another problem for me as I can digress – and do – frequently).

Bottom line. it is ever so easy for me to go to my “introspectable mind-space” and hang out there, quite comfortably. Imagination is real there – you see. And the range of possibilities and potentialities coupled with imagination is … well … frankly unimaginable. But most enjoyable.

Does this mean I’m smarter than the average bear? Absolutely! Does this mean I’ve learned how to use it to my advantage? Absolutely not!

You can see the quandary in which I frequently find myself. I know the answers to some amazing problems but have trouble explaining them to others.

So … what have you learned from this post? Perhaps that I am a comprehensible, multi-talented genius with special gifts of great import. Or perhaps that I’m amazingly long winded without saying a single thing of particular importance to you. If you made it all the way through, I applaud you. If you didn’t … well then you’re not reading this are you?

As for me I’m going to go hang out in my introspectable mind-space. Where all is forgiven and I am always well received.

Good Day!

~ Penny
