Going Banana’s – Updated

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAAbout a year ago I wrote about bananas. A post about the “fruit” of it all – The Banana! One of my favorite fruits, simply yummy and delicious!

We eat more bananas in the United States than apples and oranges combined. In some parts of the world, bananas keep millions of people alive.

Although extremely popular, the banana is mysterious; nobody knows how they evolved or from where they originated. Entire Central American nations have been said to rise and fall over the banana.

There are very real concerns about whether the banana of today will survive. As the result of commercial enterprise the (Cavandish) banana with its very own specific reproductive system, is now a genetic duplicate of the next, and highly susceptible to the same blights. Today’s yellow banana is increasingly threatened and there is as yet no cure.

Scientists are focusing on banana varieties still found in nature. Wild bananas can still reproduce by seeds andbanana's by copyright by nick b are constantly confronted with fungi. I stay hopeful researchers will discover resistance genes that can be transferred to the now seedless varieties. (A return to a more natural approach might be a good idea.).

And Bananas are very, very good for you. Rich in nutrients, vitamins, minerals and fiber – A source of energy. They help people suffering from anemia, can help in reducing high blood pressure and preventing bone loss by lessening the damage done by foods containing high levels of sodium/salts (found in the typical modern American diet). They can also help to balance blood-glucose levels and reduce mood swings.

Bananas are excellent for those suffering with ulcers. They can help lower gastric juice levels and build a protective coating in the stomach and in reducing heartburn symptoms. Bananas contain tryptophan, serotonin and norepinephrine which can lessen depression and also help a person to relax.

just-bananasThe B vitamins found in bananas help calm and soothe the nervous system, vitamin B6 in particular which can reduce the symptoms of irritability and sleeplessness.

Bananas help to lessen cravings for sugar and other sweet snacks. They are helpful in preventing age-related macular degeneration and strokes.

Even the peels serve a few useful purposes. They make a great fertilizer in the garden, especially for roses. Bury a few peels near the bush, and the peels will normally cause the roses to thrive. Pimples can be dried out naturally by rubbing the inside of the banana peel on the affected area on the skin.

As for me I try to include a banana in my daily protein smoothy. But what I really love is Banana Ice Cream. And the exciting thing is it’s made entirely from bananas – nothing else.

HOW TO MAKE BANANA ICE CREAM!

Save up those bananas that are beginning to be not quite but almost too ripe to eat. And/or just use fresh ones. Peelbanana-ice-cream-1 the bananas, cut into small bite size pieces place on a tray and freeze. Once frozen I put the frozen pieces in baggies and keep them in the freezer until ready to use. When your ready to make banana ice cream you:

  • Remove frozen bananas from the freezer (2 or 3 per person
  • place the banana pieces in a powerful blender or mixer
  • Blend
  • Add only a few pieces at a time

This does take a while.

banana-ice-cream-2There is enough fat in the banana and water that has been frozen in the bananas along with the natural sugar that by blending it long enough you end up with “Banana Ice Cream”.

If you like bananas you’ll love this healthy treat! The taste is so incredibly ice coldbanana-ice-cream-3 creamy and yummy, it really is banana ice cream!

Give it a try, good for you and so delicious! Great for a hot summer day! It was 106 degrees here yesterday. Will be 104 today. Stay Cool and thanks for stopping by,

Are YOU, hidden from view, on the inside!

file5451255490381

Are you Really – YOU?

Let me put that another way. Are you the YOU that you wish to be or someone else’s version! A societal file00093066100construct manufactured by demographic opinions. Or a person lead by those who feel they “know best” about who and how you should be.

It seems that too many of us conform to a certain mindset so we can be accepted and thought well of. In fact I know very few who don’t experience this type of thinking, at some point or other in their lives.

Some actually live there, though, dwelling in misery. That is to say, they try so hard for acceptance by performing to another’s tune, they end up unhappy within themselves; because they are not being the person they truly want to be, the one on the inside.

And in the process are losing themselves, and everything that they might be, by trying to be something they are not. Meanwhile going through all of the “acceptable” motions on the outside.

You know who you are, too. I know I was there – for quite awhile. Trying very hard to please, so I would be accepted. It didn’t dawn on me until much later that all of the people I really admired, werefile00078014988 their own person. And I enjoyed being around them, because they enjoyed being around themselves and were happy, just because. They felt good about themselves and felt very little need to conform to the dictates of others unless it was something they wanted for themselves also.

I began to experiment being me, on the outside, in small little steps, a little bit at a time,  and the really astonishing thing for me was (and still is) the day I realized that those whom I had struggled, (so very hard) to get the approval of, now admired and respected me (and told me so).

Quite the lesson, because I was now doing what I wanted to do for myself and while I was pleased with their comments, it was no longer important. Being myself was what was important. And finally, I learned to say “no” when it was healthy for me to say no, and “yes” when it was healthy for me to say yes! My own person, a struggle but I made it.

So I ask again. Are you … really YOU? And if not, what’s stopping you? Try some little baby steps, venture out from the inside. You may find the climate quite to your liking (a happier one, too). I find I now like “the me that I am” very much and I think you should feel that way about you – too! It’s a great and liberating feeling!

An Antidote for Fear, Anger and Guilt

apothecary

There are some words that when understood and utilized actually activate your life’s energy flow. A proven fact. They can fortify your immune system (so you’re healthier), strengthen your resolve of things and assist you in overcoming doubt and other obstacles in your life.

file3421246505623Love – Unconditional acceptance and understanding empathy for the human condition.

Faith or Belief – The pure feeling and revelation of our relationship to creation and the infinite.

Trust – Confidence, believing in and relying on the qualities of integrity and goodness.

Gratitude – A feeling, a humble emotion of sincere and heartfelt thankfulness.

Courage – Bravery, the quality of the mind enabling one to prepare for danger even through fear.

file7241263059338Sounds good doesn’t it! Well if you’re in a store that stocks those items to purchase, you can say I’ll take one of each,  just put it on my bill!

If they came in the form of a pill, we’d pop the pills into our mouth in a heartbeat.

Unfortunately it doesn’t work that way. There’s a little more effort on your part required. The good news is that all are readily accessible, you just need to change your mind on how you view yourself and your capabilities.

So how can you accomplish this?

file0002128336733

The “you” who is convinced of what you can’t do, and your head full of all the reasons why.

You believe you can!

You change your ATTITUDE!

You wake up tomorrow and say “I CAN DO THIS” !

You go through each day regardless of what happens believing you can do it!

AND YOU WILL!

The only one stopping you is … you,

your fears, your anger and your guilt.

So there you go.

The antidote you need, yours for the doing!

MAKE IT HAPPEN!

Have a great week,

Waste Management Control – for good health … HUH?

Yes, – the truth!

The most efficient waste management system on the planet is our own body, until we mucky up the works with our current life style habits!

body

~

The most understood definition of waste management (in industry): The collection, transportation and disposal of garbage and waste products. This encompasses management of all processes and resources for proper handling of waste materials. This then is the everyday world of garbage collection and removal.

And this is also what our body does for us, 24 hours a day … if we let it.

The further we stray from providing what our body needs so it can take a raw product, turn it into fuel, and then discard what can’t be used, the further we are from optimal health.

Here’s another way to think about this. Right now. Take a cup of sugar and poor it into the gas tank of your car!engine  I can hear your thoughts. Are you kidding me? That would really mess up my cars ability to run! We do (most of us) maintain our mechanical transportation. So, why not the most important one?

The body is our own personal (one of a kind) biological vehicle that needs the same care and maintenance to effectively do it’s job. When the body can’t do it’s job of waste removal then negative things begin to happen:

The build up of cholesterol and calcium deposits; the breakdown of celluar structures into free radicals, plus the added complication of manufactured chemicals counterbalancing what we are either ingesting or reacting to (stress) create a weakness allowing disease to enter our body. The body can not protect itself from invaders, much less do it’s job of removing waste if we are overloading it everyday.

Just some food for thought. Do a little research, you might be surprised at a few simple things you can do to improve the maintenance of the most important form of transportation you have – your body! Your life may depend on it. Well, actually it does!

Singing Stones – A sensory lesson!

Each day, much sensory information is lost to us, even though we do have the capability to sense our b onesurroundings more fully than we currently do. Each person’s level of awareness is influenced by individual skills, our genes, environment, and our personal previous experiences.

Learning to better understand our full sensory “potential” will help us interpret our environment more accurately. It is a good thing to know that each of our senses do not work independently of one another. Science has proven sensory integration takes place in the brain.a one

Scientific research has also shown that the brain never stops changing and adjusting to its environment. We now know the brain can “reprogram” itself.

This ability is important for acquiring new knowledge, for compensating for deficiencies that result from age or injury, and for enhancing our life experiences.

So to help you reprogram a little – Did you know that rocks (solids) absorb sound; those vibrations and frequencies that travel through air and water (gases and liquids -to simplify things here). According to scientists, rocks or stones also resonate.

There are certain rocks (sonorous rocks) that have the property of ringing like a bell when struck (which we can hear). Other rocks resonate too, we just don’t hear these series of tones. The frequencies are lower than the human ear can hear, but our body still senses the vibratory sounds they make.

Your sensory lesson for today. Go find a stone. Ideally near a water source or a mountain side. But one in a meadow or barren desert will also work. Hold it in the palm of your hand for a period of time.

~

singing stones

~

You’ll find yourself wanting to rub the stone and no, nothing magical or mystical is going to happen … but … as frequencies go, the warmth of your own body’s chemistry (and energy) coupled with the resonating vibrations from the stone will play a soothing song that both your body and mind will sense – a calming experience!

Go on give it a try! Not magic, just science. (Or as Einstein would say – perhaps a bit of both!)

Have a great day, thanks for stopping by,

The Art of being Playful -101!

Has anyone noticed that life can be a little … TOUGH!!!

worried

Life comes at a person fast and furious (on some days). Or dreary and overwhelmingly dull and even (should I use the word … depressing) on other days. Scary, Frightening, Sad, Miserable, Hectic, Cruel, Too much, too much, too much …

There you go. That’s us humans for you. We’re a very reactionary bunch aren’t we? We think and emote over almost everything. Maybe we’re too stationary. Or not stationary enough (mentally speaking)!

running

I think we need more “playful” breaks. Tickling and giggling are good. Just running with a burst of energy for no reason at all is good. Singing a fun song just for the heck of it.

“If your happy and you know it clap your hands.

If you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.

If you’re happy and you show it then the whole wide world will know it,

it you’re happy and you know it clap your hands.”

playing

Happiness is a state of being. It doesn’t “fix’ the problems of the world. But it certain puts us in a more positive productive mode (mood also) which can in fact change how we approach the problems of the world. Change your attitude and things don’t appear quite so untenable.

Saying I love you for no reason at all except you just want to in the moment (children do that spontaneously, you know).

sharing your feelings

And being sensual … as in my last post. That’s being playful also. On a list of top ten playful things for adults to do … Being openly sensual is right up there towards the top because we need each other and we need to let each other know this. A very good and “playful” reminder for you today.

It’s Thursday, a work day for many, still take a little bit of time today and be playful,

thanks for stopping by,

Being at one with nature

Sometimes, there is a desire within to be at one with nature. To lay down in the meadow, let the spring breeze blow overhead and melt into the landscape.

at one with nature

This coming weekend, set aside a little “you” time. Go find some nature and (even if it’s your backyard or a nearby park) become one with nature. Let go of everyday worries, relax, unwind. Remember what it feels like to not have a care in the moment, except to be at peace, with yourself.

The Mythos of our Realities

Mythos: (Sociology) the composite of beliefs, values, attitudes, etc, characteristic of a specific group or society.

mythos vs reality

I’ve come to believe that there is less reality and more mythos in life today.

Many of us are so removed from the natural order of things that we are less involved with those around us than we are “viewing” as happenings (second hand – mass media) events during the normal course of daily events.

Meanwhile we do share (in common) an increasing frustration of “missing out” “feeling alone” “not quite connecting” and so on.

So what to do: Wouldn’t it be fantastiic if I could just whip out this excellent answer here that would solve this sense of feeling apart from.

No worries, I can do that – here you go:

WAKE UP TO YOUR OWN PERSONAL REALITY – GRAB SOMEONE AND GIVE THEM A BIG HUG, DO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO SMELL THE ROSES AND THE COFFEE, MAKE THOSE MISSING CONNECTIONS, YOURSELF – STAND UP – MAKE A DIFFERENCE – CARE – LOVE – IT ISN’T COMPLICATED, NOT REALLY – EMBRACE LIFE !

IT’S ULTIMATELY UP TO “YOU’!

Egyptian hug

Hey the hugs worked for them! Their culture lasted for thousands of years!

And Guess What? If you do this – others will follow in your footsteps because they want to be where you’re going too!

Your choice, as always!

A toast … to your health!

and the research of it all!

research

~

Here’s the caveat! When I write about a nonfiction subject it is my opinion only. If I introduce anything to you that I perceive to be of potential and positive value, it is only an introduction and perhaps my thoughts on theresearch subject. I do have knowledge in several fields of endeavor, based on experience and education, but do not consider myself the definitive expert in any. Nor should you!!

Therefore take nothing for granted. If you find you are interested in anything on any subject that may be new to you – RESEARCH THIS FOR YOURSELF. Talk to an expert in the field of your interest. There is too much available data online today, some is not credible, some is a down right lie. And .. some is of great value. The purpose of research is to discover, on your own, to the best of your ability to do so, the true value of the thing you want to know more about. And when it comes to your health check with your doctor first before making any life altering changes!

Having said that, here’s to your health!

Live the day your in! (plan for tomorrow, but don’t bypass today because your too busy planning your future)!

antioxidantsMove – More and more professionals (in my opinion) are recognizing the dangers in the overuse of Statin (cholesterol reducing drugs). Exercise is an excellent and easy method to improve your cholestrol levels (here is one of those places for you to do your own research!)

Eat closer to nature (The more colorful the better for vitamins, minerals and – “phytonutrients”, yup go research the reasons why color is good in fruits and vegetables!) Also grain and natural sources of proteins. Definitely worth the research on each of these.

Always make time to share and give! Always – this is huge. Those who make a positive difference in the lives of others seem to live longer and are usually healthier and happier too!

Love and live life. Fill yourself up with the experience of it!

live life

~

So now a toast to your health … “Live long and Prosper!”

Do you run towards life …

or from it?

running from life

A simple question with a not so simple answer. There are easy days and then there are the hard ones. Some of us run in the hopes that the scarier aspects of life won’t overtake us. Some of us run because we’re sure if we run fast enough we’ll make it. Some of us are afraid to stop … and some of us are afraid to start.

(the film quality isn’t the best of this YouTube video – but the content is!)

~

At the very heart of who we are is the desire to succeed in our endeavors. The thing is we can only make it in life – if we are moving forward. For those of us who have decided the whole prospect seems too overwhelming.

there is a third option ~ try running along with life.

Go with the flow, one day at a time.

Works for me, maybe you too!
