First Rock: “Hey, you’re gonna love this one!”

Second Rock: “I doubt that very much but go ahead I’ll humor you!”

First Rock: “What did one human say to the other human?”

Second Rock: “And I’m supposed to be interested in this … why?”

First Rock: “No, trust me, you’re going to laugh out loud. You know those humans…”

Second Rock: “Not particularly well nor do I wish to.”

First Rock: “Seriously, this is to die for … it’s so funny!”

Second Rock: “Okay, okay, so whats the joke?”

First Rock: “What did one human say to the other human?”

Second Rock, “Ah… we’re talking about human beings here – they don’t communicate with each other!”

First Rock: “Oh … you’ve heard that one!”

The World Cup – Soccer, most popular sport on the planet, WHY?

~

Football. Futbol. Voetbal. Futebol. Fußball. Fotboll. Calcio, Soccer. Whatever name you choose to call it, Soccer is truly a global game. The world’s most popular sport, played in every corner of our planet.

Why? One reason is that for the many hundreds of millions of people around the world, it is the ultimate cultural expression. “The Universal language that we speak with different accents,” Tim Vickery, a Rio-based soccer journalist stated. “A patriotic act, cheering on their team, because it is their country and their people being represented in the eyes of the rest of the world.”

The World Cup is the biggest sports event in the world because soccer itself is the most popular sport in the world, and it’s the most popular sport in the world because it’s the simplest sport,” offered Paddy Agnew, a Rome-based soccer reporter for World Soccer magazine.

The simplicity to soccer is it’s greatest asset – it is more accessible than other sports to average fans.

Another reason why is: Soccer is the great economic equalizer, used by some of the sport’s all-time greats, including Pele and Diego Maradona, to escape abject poverty. Many consider It the language of the world, removing all obstacles and boundaries. And that is a very nice and good thing for our people on our planet.

“In today’s very fragmented media society, the World Cup is one of the last massive events where you know entire nations are watching at the same time.” Raphael Honigstein, a soccer journalist for The Guardian newspaper.

“The passion in each country for its team and what it means to all the people to see their team play at the World Cup, makes the World Cup unique and so special,” Former U.S. national team coach Bob Bradley.

ENGLAND may have been the nation that brought football (soccer) to the world, But the origins of football / soccer can be found in every corner of geography and history. The Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Ancient Greek, Persian, Viking, and many more played a ball game long before our era. The Chinese played “football” games date as far back as 3000 years ago. The Ancient Greeks and the Roman used football games to sharpen warriors for battle. In south and Central America a game called “Tlatchi” once flourished. But it was in England that soccer / football really begin to take shape. It all started in 1863 in England, when the first Football (Soccer) Association was founded.

So … for that one month, every four years, the world stops when the World Cup is on.

Today, 736 of the world’s best soccer players have descended upon the beautiful country of Brazil. Thirty-two nations are set to do battle for the 36 centimetre, 18 carat gold, Fifa World Cup Trophy, the biggest prize in international soccer.

This evening the 2014 World Cup is due to kick off as hosts Brazil take on Croatia.

For the passion, the hope and expectation produced by hundreds of millions of fans, for the athlete fervor and passion created by some of the best athletes in the world, I end with a few of Soccer’s most popular sayings –

“Blood,Sweat and Tears, go after your Goals!”

“Your a team above all, above all a team”

“Futball, the beautiful game”

“Teamwork makes the dream work!”

“Soccer, Live it and Love it!”

The Thing About “To Do” Lists!

Credit line Photo: © Macchia | Dreamstime.com Graphic "to-do Lists" PennyLHowe, 2013

I’ve discovered the most amazing thing.

In order for the “to-do” list to really be helpful, you have to actually “do” the things on the list! Well bummer, that!

My “to do” list tends to be – “those things that I should have already done but I keep reminding myself everyday to do, by rewriting … and adding to … them” LIST. And then I pare it back down by reviewing the list, thinking to myself “do I really have to-do this one today?”  I’ve come to the realistic conclusion that some things belong in a second “to-do” list. One called. “Okay, so I really don’t want to do these things (at all) but I’d better or something bad is going to happen” LIST!

Now, my “to-do because I want to” LIST … well that’s another story. (Actually I don’t have a “want-to” list). I seem to remember to do those things all by my little ol’ self.

And while I’m on the subject of Lists, have you noticed there are lists for everything under the sun – now. Quantum amounts of lists. You name it – there’s a list for that.

And demographically speaking, you’re probably in a whole bunch of them, you lucky you! It’s called gathering statistics and every single social media platform is a busy little bee or “spider” running around collecting data about you – sorting and organizing, distilling and going after you more aggressively because You ARE on their “to-do” list. It’s all about accumulative numbers, ratings, and percentages for business and organic “online growth” … trust me on this one. If you’re online there is no way you aren’t on one or more lists … somewhere!

So what does any of this have to do with making your daily “to-do” list and getting it done? Not a darn thing. Or maybe it does? Maybe there are too many lists accumulating everywhere (at both home and work, offline and on) and not enough “Just Do It”! (quantitative action). Maybe! Just sayin’.

Photo taken of an illustration in a 100+ year old book! I added the rest, lol! Penny L. Howe, 2013

(p.s. – Now that I think about it there are two lists I’d love to be on – “Santa’s Gift list and the best seller “book list”! LOL

Have a great day. Try not to take life so seriously, we have whole lists of people working diligently on that one – so lighten up, smile and laugh.

Hope my post helped you achieve at least a smile or two today.

The Minions of It All.

We have officially adopted a handful of “minions” into our household. Their purpose – create laughter and fun in our daily lives … and to remind us not to take (so seriously) the very minor, everyday happenings we may encounter.

The following video is the official  movie trailer for Despicable Me 2! The minions will make you laugh, again and again, in their playful and delightful innocence with all things in life. Enjoy:

(To view directly on Youtube, look for Despicable Me 2 – official trailer.)

~

And I recomment you adopt a few minions for your own home. More chaos, for sure! More laughter and fun – Absolutely!

Have a great day and a better tomorrow!

A Best Friend ~ your dog!

Aren’t dogs wonderful? They can be your buddies and your protectors. There was one in my life that was more than a little special! He went where I went, and was just about the best friend to have around when I needed cheering up or a snuggle.

He’d also, on his own, go over and gently bite the hand of any man I was dating that would put his arm around me. (he was jealous) I thought it was sweet. The gentlemen in question, not so much. Since Rook (pronounced like the ‘oo’ in root) was a German Shepherd, weighing in at 95 lbs and a trained “protection” animal, most people took him seriously.

I bought him and trained with him from a special security place when he was a year and a half old, to keep myself and my little ones safe. After a few years, we were the best pals ever and he was a part of our family. And he proved his worth on several occasions!

If you have a dog, take him or her for a walk today. Give them a special treat from me and a great big hug because it is true … sometimes …

“A Dog is a Person’s Best Friend!”

Have a great Tuesday,

Feel good feelings!

~

“Smiles and Laughter are ‘feel good’ things!
They give you a psychological advantage
from negatives that can threaten to overtake you.” ~ Penny, 2013

~

Do something delightful that brings a smile to your face.

Do something that makes you laugh spontaneously!

Have a good laugh today!

Watch a funny movie! Share a joke with friends!

Read a humorous book!

If you have children nearby, play a fun game with them.

If you have a pet, play with them.

Think a funny thought!

Okay I admit it may be a bit of a reach –

drawing a happy face on a cotton swab.

Although I have to say that the other swabs look quite jealous,

or perhaps envious for his happy expression!

I hope I brought at least a smile to your face today,

hopefully a little laughter too!

Have a great Thursday everyone,

~ Penny
