Ecology vs Economy – Which green is more important?

file9791238874639

There is absolutely no doubt about it. A healthy economy today is directly in opposition to a healthy ecosystem. No question (from my point of view) that a nonsensical lifestyle bearing little resemblance to a harmonious whole, exists today.

The importance of money and profits increase daily. And with each passing day it also becomes more intrusive on the natural order of things. Pushing humanity back at the same time it pulls us forward into an even more artificial existence.

alberi

True and positive change for the health and well-being of ourselves and our planet will occur dramatically when the economics of society and our lifestyles are not diametrically opposed to the naturally occurring ecosystem of our planet.

It is not just about our ecological footprint, it is about the our whole body (all 7 billion+ of us) and how we are negatively impacting our planet.

For a single example: Compare the Stock Market on Wall street to a Stalk of grass (an untampered stalk of grass. Be it wheat, corn, or other). The Stalk is viewed as only representative of worth or value to the Stock of things, economic growth is the important aspect not the maintenance of natural ecological growth.

The naturally occurring stalk of grass has been radically changed within our great multinational agricultural world. And the stalk does not stand alone. Misuse of fossil fuel reigns supreme, in the name of economic growth, where all manner of change has occurred on our planet, sadly without (in most instances) taking into count the fragile relationships that all things have to each other in our natural world.

We are not a stupid people. We see the results everywhere and we’re beginning to feel them too. We are as much of the problem as we can be part of the solution. Which green is more important to you and your family’s future? It should be a no-brainer. But it isn’t. Money is seductive. And this means that those with power and money need us, as consumers to keep buying things.

Consuming is what we do best, in fact we are consuming not only our natural resources but our future, as well.

So as a consumer myself, I ask you this … Which green is more important to you?

The Why of “Fracking”! A Poem of Nature

Meanings of the word Fracking

1)  A creative word signifying a strong emotion (originally from dialogue on the TV series Battlestar Galactica) used  or spoken to replace a profane word that we can all figure out.

2) The process of injecting liquid at high pressure into subterranean rocks, boreholes, etc., so as to force open existing fissures and extract oil or gas. It is obvious that Big Business would rather rape our lands to get that extra dollar instead of investing in alternative, safe and healthy energy forms.

The land on which we depend, needs be supple, rich, and pure

The Land on which we dwell, suffers from misuse.

Economics 101 – Knowing the true worth/value of your society!

Sheepish decisions

“Is it safe to come out yet?”
“We’re sheep, are you kidding me?”

. . .

Is there such a thing as true value?
And if there is, would you recognize it?

. . .

The ‘worth’ of each human begins with the beating of each and every heart.

The value of the ‘worth’ determined as we go through our individual life experiences.

While we decide for ourselves what ‘value’ may be to each of us, none-the-less, it is always decided with each beat of our heart! And what we decide to do about things.

THEREFORE …

Economically (fiscally) speaking, healthy, happy engaged and employed human beings trump every other value ‘per capita’ when it comes to the worth of a thingAlways! (Even in this technological, consumer activism, ‘money making money’ economy driven society!)

The value of each human begins from the moment of their existence.

Consequently the road to economic prosperity – for all societies (no exceptions) is always dependent (first) on the well-being of humans (both men and women), including all living entities, with which we humans coexist (and depend upon) on our planet!”

What is the “true” economic worth and value of your country (society you live in) right now?

Ladies (and gentlemen) isn’t it time to put our perspectives in order and begin at the very essence of what prosperity (worth/value) really is, – Knowing and honoring the true value of LIFE itself – and continuing on from there!

Hello November – Let’s make it a good one!

foto

For parts of the planet the weather is definitely getting colder. For other parts it is balmy and lovely! (I must admit to being a little bit envious for the warmth in those areas.)

It is Monday for most of us, Tuesday for some and a new week and month has begun.

What can we do to improve our day and those days ahead?

Well it isn’t going to be easy, is it? I mean, how can you determine the truth of what’s going on in the world around you sorting through the “heaps and heaps” of untruths, half-truths and play ol’ runaway insanity we are inundated with each day.

Common Sense

So here’s a thought. How about for starters, we use our common sense! For example “all commercials and advertisements” you are viewing online (regardless of what type of mechanical device you are using) – are there for the sole purpose of enticing you to buy something! (Always – No Exceptions, here!) So keep this in mind. Not just as a consumer but as an individual concerned for you and your family’s well-being.

Don’t buy into a “story” no matter how compelling because it’s “trending”. Use common sense. If you’re in a state (USA) where you’ll be voting the same logic should apply. Don’t “vote” just to vote. If you don’t understand the issue (you should) take the time to learn about it. Ditto with those who are running for a public office. Common Sense is an amazing tool when we take the time to use it.

legacyLegacy?

Yes, ‘Common Sense’ is absolutely better then ‘Omnipotent Hindsight’ which is how most opinions (we read about) are formed today – after the fact (spreading like wildfire) rather than securing needed information first – when the ‘actually facts’ can be of much needed value!

What is your ‘common sense’ quotient? Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised yourself, with how effective this tool can be for you!

Have a good November, make ‘common sense’ your new “norm”. And who knows? It might actually trend its way into some of the areas where common sense is sorely needed (because it’s obviously missing completely in those places).

Happy week to all, Stay balanced (with lots of love thrown in)! And never, never forget –

Yes, you can – Yes you can! Getting funded for your business!

When you promote, sometimes the trick is coming up with a trick! Something innovative and clever enough that gets you the attention you need.

Some years ago I started up a small marketing firm, and I ran into a few financial problems where I needed to raise funds (when you’re a new young business, this can happen – a lot). I knew about an “angel investor” a weathy entrepreneur who “invested” and/or lent money to young businesses. He’d give them a helping hand … if he liked their business idea.

The problem, getting in to see this large business owner was next to impossible. He had a personal assistant, a private secretary and several receptionists that handled most of his correspondence. And a very busy schedule with national and international interests!

He didn’t attend many of the local city (Portland, Oregon) business type affairs and functions. I was really struggling with how to get by his various assistants who I knew would show me the door. So how was I going to get an appointment with this individual?

And then I came up with an idea. My budget was almost non-existent, yet I spent a substantial amount of money on a beautiful bouquet of flowers. One that looked professional but personal, and I wrote a short message, sealed it inside a small envelope and had the flowers with the “envelope” delivered to the investor, himself!

I was betting on the fact that none of his aides would feel comfortable opening the envelope addressed to him. And they weren’t. He was the first person to read my note.

The next morning I received a call from the personal assistant. His opening words to me were “You’re are very clever Penny, Mr — said to tell you he will give you just 15 minutes of his time on Monday, at 8 a.m. sharp.”

Yes I was excited but very nervous. I organized all the documentation I felt I needed to show him, I reviewed, again and again what I had to say and in what order to get his attention. I only had 15 minutes to accomplish my goals. The morning came, I showed up. I was led into a gorgeous office suite overlooking the water, from Swan island where his offices were located.

I shook his hand, looked directly into his eyes, told him why I needed the money, what I planned to do with it, handed him the paperwork to back it up (which he glanced at and set aside) and then he proceeded to ask me a lot of business type questions, by then the 15 minutes were up and his aid opened the door and said “Sir your long distance call is waiting.”

I knew that was the signal my 15 minutes were up, but then my potential investor looked at his aide and said “I’m not through here yet, I’ll call them back.” I stayed 45 minutes, had to return in a week with more paperwork but he did agree to help!

Previous to my meeting, I’d been told by another business owner, that almost anyone who approached this individual when asking for money, never made it past 10 minutes, before the long distance phone call happened! So I was very pleased and honestly proud of my accomplishment – because through the whole process I was “scared to death” and not sure I could do it!

His final words on our first meeting were. “Oh and Penny, the flowers are beautiful, thank you.”

And the message? Would you like to know what I wrote? It said:

“Dear Sir, I am a young entrepreneur and if you meet with me I can prove to you that I have a business idea you would want to invest in! Enjoy the flowers, either way! Thank you, Penny”

This is a memory I will always remember fondly, because in spite of my fear and doubts I proved to myself that “Yes I can and guess what … If I can, then so can you!”

Predator/Prey or enlightened human beings!

predator or prey

An Official Rant! Brought to you by myself. It is long, but I’d appreciate it if you’d take those few extra minutes to approve or disapprove of what I am expressing here. Thank you! And so the ranting begins:

We are a thinking species. At least I’d like to think so. All of us consider ourselves as intelligent and most believe we have spirits (souls) within us, so it begs the question that if those things are true, why do we still live in the animal world of predator/prey mentality of life.

Our civilization is not civilized as long as any one single human being (much less the many) starves, is killed, mistreated, discriminated against, judged, and by virtue of a “going with the crowd theme” making fun of (for being different) and at the extreme end of the spectrum killed for that difference. Exactly what part of that is “being civilized”!

When animals kill one another they do so to survive. The purpose of war is to protect and preserve “a way of life” – but it has always been and will always be at the “expensive” expense of life, always! To me this negates the purpose, at least one would think so. Can there be no “other solutions” for solving man’s problems? And why isn’t more money spent on solving international problems from a “not killing” perspective instead of the trillions spent on designing and building new and improved weapons.

Are we still only just surviving? Haven’t we (in this socialized world of today) moved beyond that? Most obviously not. In politics, one of the first things one hears is that it’s a cut throat business (?)  Finding any groups of elected officials actually coming together to work as a team is almost unheard of anywhere today. And in business, it is not about finding and selling a product that humans need, but filling the “consumer addiction” for all things new, fun, and different – all for the purpose of “making money” (often at the disregard and expense of those they cater to). I speak nothing here that you don’t already know is true!

And then there’s most all of us. The “we” of it all, just going along with the flow where ever we happen to be. Making no waves. Overspending, overeating, overdoing (at the expense of time that should be spent in the nurturing and teaching of values such as honor and honesty) so desperately needed in the slowly disintegrating family environment of today). What are we doing to ourselves guys? Is this then our future?

We prey upon the negativity that permeates the news. It looms large every single second of every single day making sure that in all the various mass media no one will miss out (ratings rule – not happy people) on what’s going wrong instead of embracing that which we are getting right. That which is nurturing. that which is uplifting, that which is loving, giving, caring, and sharing.

But just imagine! What if … what if we woke up deciding to get along, try harder to be there for our family, friends and others. What if we reached out to those who needed help and support. (There are a handful of people, around the world, who are already doing just that.) What if there were many many more of those others (such as ourselves) waiting there  … to help make the positive difference through the rough spots of life.

We’d no longer be predator and prey but the human race, working and loving together (as a whole) to overcome and conquer the most important part of what being a human being is all about – to love, nourish and support all things living.

“For the well being of all, the primary purpose on this planet is not to destroy but support life.”

Thank you,

Penny L Howe
