Don’t be Afraid of Living

Female by Penny L Howe, 2013

“Female” by Penny L Howe, 2013

There are many things to be afraid of

I’ve confronted a few in my day,

The Sun may not rise

the moon may not set

or things will not go my way.

.

The boogie man hiding under my bed

gave childhood nights filled with fear,

But what really terrified

during those scary times

was when no parents were near.

.

Don’t be afraid of living

For this is your time here on earth,

make the most of your day

give thanks ‘long the way’

for the blessing that was your birth.

.

For most of us what really scares us

isn’t a truth or a fact,

But our worries and fears

accumulated through years

Of what we don’t have or we lack.

.

Fear can be a mind killer, you know,

But it comes with a choice that is yours

you can stay paralyzed

and never realize

you can move on and open new doors.

.

Life is all about living

And no, there is no guarantee,

But with the will to survive

you still can thrive

That’s life – how it’s meant to be!

.

There isn’t a magic formula

well maybe … maybe just one,

each waking day

give big thanks and say

I BELIEVE that things will go my way!

(and then really believe it)

The Saga of Glory Rose!

The Saga of Glory Rose

When she was just a little girl she’d gaze up at the sky

viewing sun and clouds, the moon, the stars, and wonder why.

Why she lived upon this place, and how she came to be.

She wondered as she wandered, so curious was she.

~

On the day that she was born, a very early sign,

a birthmark on her tiny arm was there for them to find.

The mark shaped as a rosebud, “My Glory!” someone exclaimed,

And so they called her Glory Rose, and this became her name.

~

Rosebud tattoo began to fade with each new passing day,

Finally very few recalled why she was named this way.

And yet her name defined her in everything she tried,

her love of life and need to learn, she lived her living – wide.

~

She went her way and as she learned she spread her learning too,

Glory Rosy was glorious to all of those who knew.

She troubled over little things; none too small, too few.

“Please, take the time,” they’d hear her say “… before the time takes you!”

~

One day there was a mighty storm it blew in from the west.

The rivers flooded with the rain, ‘Mother Nature’s’ test.

One of the homes was swept away before all could escape

Raging waters swelling, they were no longer safe.

~

Glory Rose, not waiting, ran along the torrent’s wend.

Keeping pace with floating house until the river’s bend,

she dove into the waters, swam to the floundering home;

its timbers being tossed and torn, midst the swirling foam.

~

Among this chaos, trapped inside, she found the family bound.

Glory Rose untangled them and brought them safe and sound,

to the swollen rivers shore, where they could then be found.

~

Energy never flagging, as back and forth she came

until each were safe from harm, the river could not claim.

Just as she finally headed home, there came a giant surge

Glory Rose herself engulfed, within the river’s purge.

~

Town folk lined the river’s edge and hoped she’d reappear,

They held their breaths and waited, her death they greatly feared.

But Glory Rose still struggled, breaking through the pounding waves,

After being there for others, herself she then did save.

~

The saga told of Glory Rose began that very day,

Her bravery was amazing, but what did she have to say?

Well …

She laughed it off and then replied, “I lived up to my name!”

She then went on to live her life – pretty much the same.

No danger was too great, to save the others living

She saved herself,

she cared enough,

to live – while she was giving!

This is for the Women out there – Every Single One Of You!

Don’t give me the numbers of your age!

Tell me what you’re doing with them!

If you’re a female, in many countries you live longer, are happier, better educated – in spite of having to work harder, multi-task between work and home … and pretty much have fought every inch of the way and are still fighting to have equal rights! (What’s up with that anyway? Can’t you guys figure it out!)

WELL, Cher says it all! And her age numbers 67 years!

*Visit Cher’s – Woman’s World (official HD music video) to pre-order her new album!

And She has the right of it! We’re strong! Strong enough to rise above … as we’ve proven again and again and will keep on … until there are no barriers left!

Life is a Challenge ~ Are you up for it?

Sitting outside in the back yard this morning (6 a.m. – Northwestern America time), taste buds waking up to rich flavors of fresh brewed coffee, I thought about all the things to accomplish today. It would have been a simple matter, adding these up in my head, to head to a negative place, but instead, I stretched, played with the dog, took the trash out, (garbage collection day) reminded myself what I had to be grateful for and decided I was happy to begin my new day! Good Morning World!

~

Each day of your life

is a challenge – embrace it with passion!

The passionate risks taken in life

may be turn out poorly or gloriously wonderful,

but at least you can say

‘I have lived my life to the fullest’

with no regrets.

YES, I Can … and so can you!

by Blazeofglory

Yes I Can

*Somebody said “you won’t make it”
but I simply said  “yes I can”
Somebody said “you can’t do that”
but I simply said  “yes I can.”
*
In spite of the naysayers and cannots,
I still persevered through it all
And when they knew I would fall
And not get up at all
I said, “yes I can” and stood tall.
*
I don’t want to hear what I can’t do
Don’t keep telling me that I will fail
don’t tell me what’s wrong
all the day long
Because I will stay strong and prevail.
*
Yes I can are the words to survival
I keep repeating them over again
Because I know if I do
it will turn out to be true
“Yes I can , yes I can, yes I can!”
(And so can you!)

Are YOU, hidden from view, on the inside!

file5451255490381

Are you Really – YOU?

Let me put that another way. Are you the YOU that you wish to be or someone else’s version! A societal file00093066100construct manufactured by demographic opinions. Or a person lead by those who feel they “know best” about who and how you should be.

It seems that too many of us conform to a certain mindset so we can be accepted and thought well of. In fact I know very few who don’t experience this type of thinking, at some point or other in their lives.

Some actually live there, though, dwelling in misery. That is to say, they try so hard for acceptance by performing to another’s tune, they end up unhappy within themselves; because they are not being the person they truly want to be, the one on the inside.

And in the process are losing themselves, and everything that they might be, by trying to be something they are not. Meanwhile going through all of the “acceptable” motions on the outside.

You know who you are, too. I know I was there – for quite awhile. Trying very hard to please, so I would be accepted. It didn’t dawn on me until much later that all of the people I really admired, werefile00078014988 their own person. And I enjoyed being around them, because they enjoyed being around themselves and were happy, just because. They felt good about themselves and felt very little need to conform to the dictates of others unless it was something they wanted for themselves also.

I began to experiment being me, on the outside, in small little steps, a little bit at a time,  and the really astonishing thing for me was (and still is) the day I realized that those whom I had struggled, (so very hard) to get the approval of, now admired and respected me (and told me so).

Quite the lesson, because I was now doing what I wanted to do for myself and while I was pleased with their comments, it was no longer important. Being myself was what was important. And finally, I learned to say “no” when it was healthy for me to say no, and “yes” when it was healthy for me to say yes! My own person, a struggle but I made it.

So I ask again. Are you … really YOU? And if not, what’s stopping you? Try some little baby steps, venture out from the inside. You may find the climate quite to your liking (a happier one, too). I find I now like “the me that I am” very much and I think you should feel that way about you – too! It’s a great and liberating feeling!

Try, if for no other reason than for the person hidden inside, okay?

Are you hiding?

Come out!

Sure some days are really hard! But hiding doesn’t help anything!

hiding

Some days are really good too. It’s the nature of things. In fact take a walk today in nature. In the countryside or a nearby park. If you live near a body of water go there. Throw a rock or two in the water as you walk along the shoreline

Remove yourself from that which seems overwhelming while you expose yourself to that which is raw, real and still beautiful. Face life head on.

ocean

Nothing does that better than nature. If it’s raining than grab an umbrella. Seeing things through raindrops is a wonderful experience also. When I lived in Florida I would race to the shore line on stormy days to watch the waves crash into the boulders, I’d get soaked but it didn’t matter because nature was having it’s way with me. And sometimes the best thing to do is to just go with that flow

So come out from hiding, remind yourself why you’re alive, it’s the nature of things!

Everyday Brave

Some days! We all have them. Everything seems hard. Harder than hard. Not doable.

Know that deep down inside each of us is a spark of bravery we can latch onto. It’s in there. Really it is. Sometimes we need to speak with a friend, a loved one, perhaps a blogging pal in order to find the thing needed to be “everyday brave“! For some its thinking on the reasons to be brave.

And sometimes we just need a special reminder of how lucky we are, that we are not alone and that we are loved. Hold on, hang in there and believe this is true. Feel the love. You are not alone. Today’s reminder:

*

(Kindle subscribers click the following link to hear/view Peter Hollens singing “Brave”)

Two singers I greatly admire and enjoy are Josh Groban and Peter Hollens. Josh released this song on his new album in February. Peter is singing his rendition of the song “Brave” in today’s video. Both are outstanding musicians.

Peter Hollens (a rising star in the music industry) records from his studio in Eugene, Oregon (YAY – U of O, go – Ducks), His amazing music is a cappella. There are no instruments accompanying him, only his voice. Click on their names to subscribe to either or both of them. Thank you.

I hope you enjoyed,

Human Insecurity – Self correcting your self-doubt!

So where does one start?

insecure

Have you noticed that self-doubt is insidious, creeping in to infect you with an overwhelming sense of insecurity. And like an infection, once it has a good hold on you it can be hard to combat.

cultivateA few thoughts to consider as you gear up your personal armor to fight the disease of “Self Doubt”!

Cultivate the Compliments your receive. Have you ever noticed how good you feel when you receive an honest compliment from someone about something you’ve accomplished. Great feeling isn’t? You can’t help it, you just feel better about everything, including yourself (self-doubt retreats a little during those moments doesn’t it?) – Compliment in return. Look for people and things to be sincerely complimentary about. Like the ripple effect, it spreads and it also rebounds back to you in a positive way.

Approach the Issue (A lack of faith in yourself), from an outsider’s perspective. Be rational. By its very nature, making a judgement is usually an emotional call, a biased opinion, and most often incorrect when the one you’re judging is yourself.

Take yourself “out” of yourself. You are at the center of “the sphere of your own influence”!

share and care

Take yourself out of the sphere and then … influence others to increase their own self confidence. After all you know the symptoms of self doubt yourself. Who better to help those who also need a positive influence.

Go after your own personal “Self-worth” with determination! It’s inside you waiting to be discovered, explored, and celebrated. And how do you do that? By

  1. Cultivating the Compliments you receive.
  2. Approaching the Issue (A lack of faith in yourself), from an outsider’s perspective.
  3. Taking yourself “out” of yourself!
  4. Believing in “YOU”, after all …

… I do, why shouldn’t you?
