Meet Plato – The Intelligent Cat!

Plato

Plato, the intelligent Cat

This is Plato. and he’ll have been a part of our family for a year, right around Halloween time. While he’s certain the color for Halloween, he’s far more than just another black cat. He is a smart and beautiful cat with a most magnificent tail.

em and nay

Before Plato there had been Sawyer the cat. Emma’s beloved Sawyer left us last fall. She was a beautiful calico cat and at 16 yrs had lived a full life. When Emma was born, Sawyer (who never had kittens), adopted Emma, the two became inseparable, when Emma lost her dear father 4 years ago, Sawyer rarely left her side, she was an amazing cat and we were all sad when she was gone.

Adorable Emma

But for Emma, under the circumstances Sawyer was one too many losses and left an unusually large hole of sadness in her heart and although we had said no more pets, already having 3 cats and 2 dogs (not counting Sawyer) we felt that here was a loss we could partially replace for Emma. So we went to a special rescue place for cats and Emma picked out the kitten of her choice.

Franky cautiously checking out the new kitten!

Plato is beautiful and playful and has turned out, as I mentioned at the beginning, to be very intelligent. He’s thinks about things and studies to improve his learning, LOL. Seriously, he is very clever and we never know what to expect with him even after a year. And he adores Emma!

He hasn’t replaced Sawyer, Emma still misses her, but he is a wonderful companion for Emma and the other animals have graciously (well not entirely) accepted him into the family as well!

You must admit he is beautiful, and take my word for it – he’s also smart! Well okay, to be honest, my Franky and Jonny think he’s a pain in the …

Happy Wednesday/Thursday everyone!

“My Portions Are Magnificent!”

Two Peas in a Pod

As most of my friends and blog followers know I have two ‘substantial in size’ cats. They are “my guys” I have had them with me since they were 5 weeks old. They are now almost 7 years old. And as I say they are substantial.

Franky and Jonny

Both Franky and Jonny are gental and gracious, easy going (unless cornered) and pose in a manner that lends itself to great beauty. So I was most astonished, the other evening, when I came upon them where the light was rather dim, to find them in disagreement with each other.

As the lighting is bad the two photos are blurry but here is Jonny who is distinctly portlier than Franky and he is definitely taking exception to Franky, who off-camera appeared to be smirking at him. Truly, Jonny is in a most unattractive, undignified pose. (although if you look in the first picture at the top you’ll notice Jonny has always liked to sit in that pose, LOL)

Jonny showing his, um muscular physique.

and the second blurry photo is Jonny pointing out to Franky that he is not a chub!

Franky giving Jonny the word.

“I am not chubby, My portions are magnificent … is that clear?”

In a little while all was made up and the evening ended amicably between the two.

Animals are amazing and I love them all. I hope you enjoyed my playful take on my two favorite felines.

I hope all are have a good week and taken a little time out for fun!

3:30 a.m.- Love, light and technology…

…to chase away the fears.

Two years ago – to the day, I wrote the following blog post! It is still one of my favorites (and a true story), for all the obvious “feel good” type feelings. Hope it works for you too!

It is the middle of the night. Very, very stormy outside. Thunder and lightning in all it’s majestic power. Asleep in my bed, I discover myself waking up, the sounds from the summer storm rousing me.

A small hand touches my arm …

“G.P.?”  A small quiet voice in the dark questions.

“Yes, Emma?” I respond softly. I live in a household that consists of several children, two adults, and assorted animals. As a reference point I am called ‘G.P.’ (a nickname) by all.

The youngest has woken from the loud thunder and bright flashes of lightning raging outside.

“The thunder woke me up”. She said.

“It did me too.” I say.

In very short order Emma is in bed next to me, wide awake. I get up, turning on the bed lamp before I leave to make coffee. A short while later I’m back, bringing a cupful of nice hot “wake me up” brew along with my laptop, a cup of hot chocolate for Emma and her DSI (Hand-held game/system). Since both are wireless, we can use them safely during the storm.

Franky, one of my two cats is also afraid of the storm, so at 3:30 a.m. we snuggle, occupy ourselves with our electronics, sip on warm beverages, and weather the storm with love, light and the technology of the day.

“G.P.?” Emma says as she settles in to play videos on her DSI.

“Yes, Emma?” I answer.

“I love you.” She replies quietly.

“Me too.” I reply in an equally soft voice.

And all is well in the middle of the night.

Have a great week everyone, stay as cool as you can in this summer heat, and stay safe from stormy weather!

It’s a jungle out there! Are you surviving?

IMG_7754It really is a jungle out there … in the real world of today.

So, how’s it going?

chats_et_mulots-31

Surviving seems to be happening more than thriving. But you can do it. We humans are at our very best when it comes to adversity. It does bring out what is fine and noble in each of us. It’s when we care even more about our neighbors and friends. Both those near and those far away.

And thriving seems to happen when you reach out and make a difference for others. Your problems won’t appear quite so bad if you’re helping someone else and I’ve noticed that when we help others, many times those blessings rebound right back to us!

Kind of a “Karma of the Universe” sort of thing. Even if you’re in the midst of your own jungle. You can do it! I know you can. I believe in you!

Have a good weekend, sending lots of positive energy to all those in need! And always take care of you, so you’re there to make that difference for others.

All that we need – each other!

By Karpati Gabor

There are days

when all that we need is a gentle touch.

… a soothing hug.

… a welcoming smile.

… an understanding look.

… a shared moment in time.

… So we don’t feel so empty,

… so frightened by both the known and the unknown,

… so angry by the unfairness of life,

… so bewildered by changes,

and so infinitely alone –

There are days when all that we need is each other!

Cuddling with Franky and Jonny from the cold!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Baby it’s cold outside!

To say the least! Very very cold and so this morning in a fluffy warm robe and with one of my “guys” I cuddle (with Franky) to stay warm!

cuddling 3

Franky’s brother (Jonny) is keeping my feet warm. Between the two of them they average 25 lbs each, so there’s a lot of fur to help me stay warm and in this cold weather I am appeciative!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

For all of you dealing with wintry cold weather this week, stay safe and warm, for all of you who are somewhere warm and wonderful (lucky you!) Enjoy.

Everyone have the best ‘rest of the week’ that you can!

Penny

ps – the middle photo is new. the top and bottom photo’s with all the snow are older shots of some snowy times with my guys. I know that in many parts of the USA, right now you are dealing with lots of snow so decided to include these photos! Average temperature here has been in the single digit for the past few weeks so definitely brrrrrrrrr!

Contentment

Sometimes no words are really needed to explain a feeling of … well … perfect contentment!

Those times when it seems that all is well with the world! You’re in the perfect spot to be.

And in that moment you wouldn’t change a single thing!

Have an excellent Wednesday,
