So there I was going about my busy on a normal day when my C.O.U.S.’s decided to assist me with the writing of my blog. For your edification, My Cats Of Unusual Size are very large. I think they’re still growing. I know they weigh more now, but they seem larger too. Anyway as a result I have renamed the dynamic duo C.O.U.S.’s. Pictures included to prove my point!.

For those of you who have seen the the iconic movie “The Princess Bride” you will be familiar with the R.O.U.S.’s (Rodents of Unusual Size) in the movie! It seems to suit my guys now. Good thing I have a large bed!

Inescapable Cuteness

Just no way around it. Kittens are cute. So this post is devoted to the cuteness of kitty-ness!

cute kitties

one of my fav. shots!

In my personal opinion you can never have too much cuteness in your life … well at least a dose a day to help keep the blues away.

My kittens are

Cute, adorable and sweet.

Loving and friskily neat.

Never are spurious

but amazingly curious

Their adventures are always a treat!

~

Franky and Jonny as kittens (each video clip is only a little over a minute so enjoy as you can the cuteness of kittens, First video The wonder of being a kitten! (and yes I did make the pillow they are sleeping and playing on – just for them!)

To this day they will try to crawl into some of my creations but since Jonny weighs in at 30 lbs, and Franky at 25 lbs, it is hilarious to watch!

This Post brought to you by the color blue!

Recently, I was trying to decide which color was my favorite, and I can’t. I’ve discovered I love most colors, but if there were one I liked maybe a little more than the others it would be blue. So I bring you blue in all it’s glory!

Blue flowers

Alright another flower, my favorite wildflower (bachelor button, or cornflower)! They are considered a weed, can you imagine? As a child I would pick these flowers from the surrounding fields where I lived every summer. They also come in a variety of other colors as well!

The Facts of A Cat … think on that!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy Guys

My Guys, whom I’ve mentioned before, Franky and Jonny (5 years old now – I’ve had them since they were 4 weeks old, bottle fed them for a couple weeks, so they see me as their mommy) are big boys!

Franky weighs more than 20 lbs. Jonny almost 30 lbs. They can be …um very interactive and like to help out in a very ‘cat like’ way. Here they are “helping” me write a post about them.

franky wanting attention

This is Franky keeping my seat warm while Jonny spell checks for me. Unfortunately they tend to occupy a lot of space when they are being helpful!IMAG2012

They finally got bored with the whole thing (as cats will of course) and ended up hanging out on one part of the table (next photo below).

For their size both cats (who are obviously part Coon Cat) are incredible gentle and non-aggressive. They are playful and love to tease (terrorize) the family’s Pomeranian by acting like velociraptors and slowing sneaking up on him from different directions.

At my bedtime they can become quite territorial and I usually end up pinned to the bed in one position wedged in between the two of them and of course their purring is more like a rumbling. Kind of soothing in a different sort of way. They are loving and gentle though, so they stay my guys!

More about cats:

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Franky and Jonny love snow!

Once again, ten year old Emma has a connoisseurship when it comes to knowing cats. She lives, breaths and if she could would eat like a cat so, she has read and studied about them (apart from constantly drawing new cat characters for her future videos) so she was nice enough to share (from one of her numerous cat books) these interesting factoids:

~ Cats have been domestic for about 4,000 years. Thank you Egyptians!

~ Cats have a method of marking their territories and  their caretakers whom they clearer consider theirs as well by using scent glands located on the forehead, side of jaw, paws, and tail.

Franky and Jonny playing "king of the mountain"

~ Kittens are born blind and deaf. These senses develop four to fourteen days after birth.

~ A layer of tissue in the eyes of a cat “called the tapetum lucidum” reflects light a second time through the cat’s retina. This permits the cat to see in one-sixth the amount of light required by humans.

~ A cat’s ears can rotate 180 degrees “independently” of each other.

~ There is an olfactory organ in the roof of a cat’s mouth “the Jacobson’s organ”. It is a small pouch. A cat parts its mouth and raises its head to savor scents.

~ Cats have over 100 vocal cords. This compares to one pair in humans. But cats will only make those “meow” sounds at humans and other non-cats.

~ Cats walk by moving both right feet and then both left feet. Most four-legged mammals walk by moving theOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA front right with the back left followed by the front left with the back right. Giraffes and camels are the only other mammals to walk like cats.

~ The nose of a cat has a ridged pattern, unique to each cat just like a human fingerprint.

~ And this last one I discovered thru Google which I did not share with Emma: The female starts the mating ritual with an evocative smell and call.

She then rolls playfully in front of her potential mate “or several mates” who will fight over her. When the mating is finished, she moves to attack the male, who leaps away quickly. I found that last part particularly interesting lol!

As the photo of my guys above shows, Franky and Jonny slept together until they were just simply too big to do so (they were about 2 years old). In these final photos below, They really did try to make it work anyway,

If you have a problem with my decision …

perhaps we can finish the discussion – if you’d like to just step back here into my … office … with my associates, I’m sure we can come to some agreement!

RESPONSE: No that’s cool, I’m good, no problem. Everythings cool, okay I’m going now…see no worries…

It’s interesting how with various animals we try to imagine what they must be thinking. On a more upbeat note here is my Franky (all 20+ lbs of him – notice the size of his head relative to my arm) adoring me in the middle of the night! Yup I’m good with that!

Have a great weekend everyone, thanks for stopping by, I appreciate it very much!

Perspective – the view from your eyes

Experiencing Life

The simple truth is that your life experiences change your perspective on how you look at things.

Sometimes drastically! Your choice to learn, gain wisdom and move on or be caught up in the past with memories of unfortunate happenings that will prevent you from going forward.

How Hot is It?

Alright, enough already! It is hot, as in hot! I mean it is realllllly HOT! Does everyone get the picture? For the last few weeks and it really seems like forever, it has been 100 degrees or more outside, It is so hot outside that… (insert “how hot is it?)

It’s so hot that…

–          My cats are giving me dirty looks every time I even suggest they go outside for a while!

–          The Weeds aren’t even growing (well that’s a good thing but still…)

–          Jack and Emma are begging to take the usual obligatory “bath”.

–          No one is going anywhere unless they ‘have-to’, you know like to McDonalds so it isn’t necessary to heat up the kitchen. Just joking on that one. Well Actually I’m not!

–          Jack and Emma have been volunteering to wash the cars every few days (playing with the water hose to cool off.)

–          We’ve been considering camels as an alternative transportation mode.

–          The one totally outdoor cat we have won’t go outdoors.

–          And we had a couple of “cool” friends stop by, but that didn’t last long.

Okay actually those are Emma and Jack creations from last winter, when it was cold out, sigh! (Yes the snowcat is Emma’s, Jack is creative but more traditional with his).

Okay, I have that out of my system now. No I don’t. It’s going to be this hot for at least another week.

I guess the last thing to say is it’s so hot I couldn’t find a good photo of me to put here because even my photo’s are sweating. Stay Cool, Penny

Just too darn hot!

Full Disclosure

Good Morning. In an effort to show true transparency after presenting such tranquil views several weeks ago of the various places in my home where I blog, I’ve determined to show an actual Sunday morning in the household where I live. Recently, I showed some basically nice settings of where I write or blog during different times of the day. Here is reality!

First of all, here I am. I just woke up can you tell? I’m the sleepy one with the big coffee cup in her hand.

My day begins with Franky and Jonny reminding me it’s time to arise. (between 6 and 7 a.m.) Jonny all 28 lbs. of him lays spread out over my tummy.

Franky sits next to me and bats at my cheek (claws retracted).

I stumble upstairs. Perhaps I’m a little more graceful, maybe. (my quarters are in a daylight basement)

I feed Sasha (she’s our teddy bear dog, part sheperd and part chow – 12 yrs old) I pore myself a cup of coffee (preset so it’s ready) and sit down.

This little guy is Dante (a pomerarian, he’s 6 yrs old) who is requesting his breakfast. Pretty much he’s going to bug me until I feed him.

Franky lets me know I didn’t pet him enough when I sit down again

It isn’t long before I hear the sounds of the household stirring.

Soon there is a lot of noisy activity in the kitchen. Everyone pretty much does their own thing here on a early Sunday morning. I’m good with that!

After a variety of interuptions my day actually begins. And this is a summation of an actual Sunday morning, unvarnished and true! Good Morning Everyone,

Now that I’m awake I can go check out my blog activity. Everyone have a wonderful day today.
