Addressing the STRESS of Distress!

Stress

Here it is – the key to all of your problems. Pick it up and use it. Address that which is distressing you so intensely that your stress levels are skyrocketing! Look directly at what appears to be so overwhelming to you and confront it!

Your stress levels will not be reduced until you focus on and handle what you currently find so emotionally difficult to tackle! And you can do it!

It is not impossible! Hard, yes! Sometimes painfully so, but still doable and definitely necessary, if you want to improve the current conditions in your life. It begins with attitude – specifically speaking – yours!

Perspective plays a role in controlling emotions. The more negative and fearful your emotions, the less control you will have making positive and constructive decisions. In turn, this leads to higher stress levels. I speak an absolute truth here.

“I just can’t do it,” you say. And I say you can.  Put your mind to it! Take back your life! Your life should never evolve around emotions that are out of control.

Take charge of you. Make it happen!

Negative emotions are your enemy they sneak in and convince you of everything that’s wrong. So it’s up to you to find some positive emotions. They’re right there, inside of you too! Some really good stuff just waiting to come out and shore up the weak emotional parts of your mind.

Never forget – your emotions are yours to control, not the other way around.

So now’s the time. Go make things happen in your life. It’s the key to making positive things happen and You Can Do It! Address the Stress. You’ll feel lots better for the doing!

Have a less stressful week ahead – much love to you all!

I honor and trust you! Resetting Your Online Personal Boundaries!

Hello World, I am happy to share and …

“It is my honor to trust you,
just like a child I share with you my inner being …
This makes me vulnerable. Remember my boundaries,
as I remember yours!”

Children remind us, through the open nature of their innocence and naivete to tread carefully on their feelings.

Since we’ve learned a few hard lessons, while growing up, about those who abuse the love and trust they’ve been given, we tend to be “tempered” and cautious about letting others in.

When connecting with others online (to have strong and safe connections), you need to set personal boundaries here, as well. Sadly, Facebook and Twitter have set very low standards of behavior. (resulting in, all too frequently, negative, rude, and insensitive written words and images, as well as invasive and intrusive behavior patterns.

There really does appear to be no control (regarding personal behavior – It has become hard to tell the children from the adults.) And if that’s not bad enough, big business has come along to take advantage of these very huge and active social online relationships, for the sole purpose of “making more money”.

Setting Personal Online Boundaries:

First Stay “grounded”. Step away from the computer, your i-phone or other communicating devices when you do not feel good about what is happening with your social interactions. If you are feeling drained and exhausted, emotionally overwhelmed – time to break away.

SecondWhen you share of yourself, do so cautiously, within a place of comfortable safety, Imagine a protective shell around you, think of that space as only allowing love and positive energy within, deflecting any thing else. And then remember to maintain your energy shield.

Third Don’t assume but do be respectful of the space of others. Remember your online friends deserve the same courtesy you want, so do respect their personal boundaries too. Be an example of a responsible online “friend”!

Fourth – With all the above in mind – be true to yourself. Be your own person. Don’t let others intimidate, or negatively influence. Find the fulcrum of balance between sharing and giving even as you keep yourself safe within your own personal online boundaries. By the way, as long as you are respectful of other’s boundaries, sharing love is just about the best thing to do … always!

Thank you for visiting me, have a great week ahead,

~ Penny

Rhyme and Reason

“If there truly is a reason we (humans) exist. We define
it through our creative expressions of understanding.”
~ Penny L Howe, 2013

*

I know there’s a reason in life and I know there is also a rhyme. So we think and we feel. Two types of things. Thoughts and feelings.

Thoughts for when we think on things, organizing what we’ve learned into pieces of understanding. Feelings for when we contemplate our thoughts expressing and emoting about them. In humans the two are closely entwined. Hard to have a thought without a corresponding emotion connected to it (although I must say, sometimes it does feel as if one can have a very strong emotion with very little reasoning thought being involved, lol).

Summing things up – the rhythms from our heart (emotions) and the thought processes from our mind create the symphony of our life experiences. How we orchestrate them defines who and how we are.

Therefore, we are all artists – creatively speaking, poetically endowed to convert our reasoning mind into beautiful expressive renderings (any art form) from the soul. So how cool is that?

Infinitely! – at least from the view of my eyes.

Have a great weekend everyone! Feel good about who and how you uniquely are. It’s what others “love” about you! Please share yourself – a joyous thing to do!

The wars we wage …

“The mightiest battles waged are never seen or viewed,
but experienced deep within ourselves –
each and every one of us! No exceptions!”

~ Penny L Howe, 2013

These are true words. For our emotional battles we need to arm ourselves with the strongest of all weapons for overcoming insecurities, fears, doubts and hate: Love, Hope and Forgiveness.

Pure love needs nothing more.

Hope lifts us up and carries us through adversity.

Forgiveness allows us to let go and move on.

Each a mighty weapon to carry in our arsenal as we journey through life’s adventures!

Much love to all – I’m still mostly offline – but it’s a troubling time for many, just wanted to share a few uplifting words this week and remind you that you are not alone – “this place” in my arms is wide enough to wrap around every single one of you! Always remember – my home is your home – always!

Take care of yourselves,

Ligo Haibun Challenge ~ For all writers!

~

The Challenge:

Fall (Autumn) is a busy time of the year for many, along with changing seasons, it is also the return of school in many countries. Each day that passes finds us presented with a potentially wide range of emotions for us to handle – the ‘ups and downs’ that may beset us.

With this in mind, the hosts (NightlakeYe Pirate and myself) of the Ligo Haibun Challenge have selected the following two words for you to explore and think on while writing your haibun this week, chose either one:

“paradise” or “apathy”

Enjoy your creativity this week!

I have chosen Paradise. Yesterday I wrote a serious story about Paradise as it relates to love. Today I write a whimsical haibun on the same subject!

My offering:

Paradise

Falling in love. This, the exact expression describing those sky rocketing emotions first felt when finding love with another.

The sensation like falling, in a way. Akin to leaping out of an airplane, free falling before the parachute opens, knowing not what the next moment might bring, loving the adrenaline rush racing through your body.

I’ve fallen in love. And it is paradise. Or the best feeling I can come up with when thinking of paradise. It would be nice however if there were a parachute. Just like jumping out of an airplane, there is gravity to contend with and it does pull one down. Sometimes pulling one right out of paradise into hell.

paradise exists
but only for a time
no parachute

Peaceful Contemplation of Being Overwhelmed!

bench in river 13

~

How’s it going?

The photo says it all.

Life can be so darn overwhelming you really don’t know what to do about it. So you do nothing except think and stew and worry and wonder about THE WHY ABOUT THIS!

Is this a good thing or a bad thing? Actually its neither. It’s you experiencing “life in action” thing! Sometimes you can control what happens. But sometimes control slips away when the unexpected occurs. What matters is how you’re going to handle your own feelings!

You can rage about the “unfairness” except life has never been based on beingalone fair. A truth. You can pout and mope about the “why me … of it all”, except in all probability there are worse things happening to other people, everywhere. You just aren’t aware of them. Well, if those things don’t help – and they don’t – what is there left to do?

Summing it all up there’s one thing you can still do. It’s called the responsibility factor … that’s the really tough one. To get out of the river of being overwhelmed, the ocean of misery and so on you have to take action yourself. Be responsible for your own actions and attitude. Bring about the change you need … right now … make it happen … Go ahead … you can do it!

I’m cheering you on!

~

(yes the first two pictures are of me sitting in the Columbia river on a bench. A few of you have seen these pictures before. They’re from a little over a year ago. The river was flooding (obviously) and I decided to have a few pictures taken. It was spring and the water was melted snow thaw and frigidly cold. Took quite awhile to warm up my feet and legs, but still … got great shots!) 🙂

~ In the river of life, swim, wind surf, paddle your kayak, row your boat, do what ever it takes to keep your head above water! You make it happen. You do!

Ligo Haibun Challenge – Challenge yourself!

Summer is a busy time for many us, and with this – can come delays, as has been the case with the crew of the Ligo Haibun Challenge. Thank you for your patience, to those with entries. I have been reading all of the entrants for the past week and will be returning to comment on each.

A quandry, for me, these last few months has been picking honorable mentions – increasingly difficult because, point in fact, there are more than just a few good ones.

It is my opinion that each of you deserve honorable mentions. The very individualistic quality of each entry, the beautiful expressions of some, the unique perspective of others, the close-up realism of still others – while adhering to the haibun and haiku style and criteria, lends itself to (honestly) my personal inability to pick one over the other.

I am pleased that honorable mentions will happen monthly now. This means judging will be based on a body of your work. A new challenge each week, honorable mentions – once a month!

~

There are two words to chose from for this week’s Ligo Haibun Challenge!

“Oblivion” or “Morning Glory”

I would love to see lots of entrants to this week’s Challenge.

Get started, all you writers out there – I want to enjoy reading more wonderful haibun from all of you. Need more information?  Click here! And don’t forget, we are in the planning stages of putting together a haibun ebook (and with your permission) yours may be in there, too! Being published is always a good thing!

~

Good luck, thanks for entering and/or being a dedicated reader of the haibun/haiku writing style and therefore … becoming a Haibuner like myself,

I wish you could touch me now …

I am vulnerable because of loving so pure and deeply, my walls of protection cannot keep my desire for you at bay.

and so … I wish you could touch me now. Not my heart, you’ve touched me there too deeply, it’s still bruised and bleeding. But my body still hungers for you.

I need your touch …

I desire the warmth of your caress, the closeness of your body, the physical contact of … you!

I wish you could touch me now …

… even as I understand morning light will illuminate the true reality of our relationship. I know for all your tender caring words, you would be gone and my loving soul will still be bruised … for all your promises said in the moonlight hours of sensual need and gratification. I know all this.

But the longing remains so …

I still wish you could touch me now.

I’ll always have our memories of the night time to sustain me, in daylight hours spent alone, reflecting on why you said one thing and did another. Belittling my efforts instead of supporting them, and yet still I love you. And wish you to be happy.

I am pleased to hear you are where you’ve wanted to be for so long. I am happy for you. Resigned, accepting and aware of some of the hard learned lessons of life, when one exposes one’s soul during love.

But now in these evening hours I dream of you touching me again, filling my sensual needs. Even, as reality has come full circle and comprehension of the cruelty of those who love and those who take in the guise of love, is complete.

Touch me … but let it be only the physical, my bruised soul cannot bear the mockery of a pretense at true love (yours were personal and emotional needs for yourself. I don’t believe you really thought of my needs – perhaps as an afterthought), but my body does respond to your loving body. So in that, there is truth.

I wish you could touch me. I’m prepared now for tomorrow … it hurts, but I understand. With all the love in my heart that I give so freely, I was so sure someone might love me the way I loved them in return … it seems I was mistaken!

~

Most definitely an unrequited love piece here. Not to worry, my next fictional piece is part two of adventure and excitement. Dry your tears and stay tuned for fun! Our fictional young lady in the piece above (p.s.- she’s the one trapped in the tunnel https://thewhyaboutthis.com/2013/07/22/alastairs-photo-fiction-the-tunnel-and-survival/ , although brokenhearted, she’s about to kick some serious a..!) More to come!

The definition of Love

~

Love is not defined by any one particular meaning or expression,

 … although there are many.

~

And love is not defined just by the saying of the word either.

No, love is defined when we feel it inside.

Then we know it’s love,

for that feeling is unmistakable

… from anything else!

The two go well together!”
