Wondering Why – A Child’s POV!

Wondering Why

I look up at the sky and wonder,

I wonder what tomorrow will bring.

Will clouds still be white?

Will the moon shine as bright?

Will there still be birds on the wing?

~

I wonder, will I still be happy

or sad, like so many I see.

It’s so hard to tell

my future as well,

I wonder what I’ll grow up to be?

~

It’s not so much that I worry

It’s more, I think, that I care.

So I look at the sky

Wondering why,

And when… we’ll all learn how to share!

Monday’s Finish The Story: The Forever Reminder!

The Forever Reminder

The people waved at him from the bridge below. Over the years he had never forgotten. Hardwired to his memory – that particular moment in time. As a hydrologist it was his job to locate groundwater determining depth, quality and most important – the actual amount of water, usually from a place much closer to the ground than he had found himself that day. That eventful day.

Anticipating the groundwater to be shallow, he had not expected there to be – none. And so it came to pass around the globe. No more fresh, clean ground water. As glaciers melted and more fresh water mixed with the ocean, eventually all water was sea water.

Many huge factories and plants were constructed to remove salt from the water for drinking purposes, but it was never the same. Most life died or changed it’s biological nature. Some humans survived. He and his family were among the lucky ones.

When his daughter asked what fresh drinking water was, the image of people waving from a bridge, where fresh water flowed beneath, appeared in his mind. It had became a “forever reminder” of what had been and would never be again!

Be sure and give Barb’s new flash fiction weekly challenge -” Monday’s Finish The Story a try! The rules are easy to follow: Just write a short, very short, story (roughly 100-150 words) using the photo as a prompt and begin your story with the line that Barb shares with us. This week the line is: The people waved at him from the bridge below.”

A good writing exercise and fun too (if you enjoy writing). For more details or to view other entries just click here!

Hope everyone has a great week ahead,

Emergence/Change … I come for you!

Emergence/Change

 If you believe tomorrow comes

Then, this be a perfect time,

For me to open up your heart

And claim what must be mine.

*

But I fear I’m now not certain

I don’t know where to be,

There is too much, there is so much

And there is only me.

*

You are but one of many

Still l know just what to do,

My certainty it overflows

For every one of you.

*

If one believes in miracles

I can perform my deed,

Spread out my will and enter in

You’ll listen – you will heed.

*

If only you were wiser

I could do what I must dare,

The way would go more swiftly

And I would take you there.

*

If all the If’s were certainties

And all your dreams came true,

The rest would come so easily

To bring this time to you.

*

It’s you who I must care for

You and only you,

Open your mind and let me in

It’s time – I come for you!

My name is Change

Please let me in!

International Women’s Day – March 8th, 2014

By pedrojperez2

Depending on where you live in the world it is already International Women’s Day. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this celebration, allow me to share some information about this day.

While there have been various Women’s Day Celebrations in different parts of the world historically, it was in 1977 that the U.N. (United Nations) invited members to proclaim March 8th as the U.N. day for Women’s Rights and World Peace. Many countries now actively celebrate this day.

For both men and women this is an important day to note. We humans, of this planet Earth, cannot move forward without all of us working towards a goal of harmony, peace and growth for ourselves and  our planet.

International Women’s Day is about encouraging the freedom and rights all women are entitled to and deserve.

Some excellent resources to find out more.

It is through continuing support and education that many of the freedoms now occurring for women on our planet, in many countries, will continue to thrive for everyone’s future. It is through a sense of purpose, drive and determination that these most excellent goals can be achieved.

Never ever forget – We’re worth the extra effort needed so that all women can be free to be all that we can be!

Thank You,

Walkabout – Mentally Speaking!

It’s been 7 days since I’ve posted or read a blog. Not very long in everyday terms, but in online social connection terms (Blogs, Tweets, Google+, Facebook, About.me, Linked in, etc.) it does seems as if it’s been much longer, doesn’t it?  Time passes differently while online and so while only 7 days, I’ve missed my connections with you all so very, very much.

Here, where I live, in Northwest America it snowed briefly and gently this morning. A quiet, crisp and clear beginning to start one’s day! A place you’d want your thoughts to dwell as much as possible with today’s hectic lifestyle. Change being the only constant in all of our lives.

In the past week I’ve been doing a mental “Walkabout” as Australians might refer to it. I’ve had much dwelling on my mind. Questing my “role” in things you could even say.

In ‘personal life’ adventures, nothing has been handed to me easily. I’ve worked my way through various stages of life while not necessarily emerging as a victor, none-the-less I also did not come away as a victim and instead am wiser in spite of cherished things that have been lost.

All my life I have tried to avoid direct confrontation and yet even through fears, stood as brave and strong as I could when it was needed. I’m ‘tempered’ as a metal might become by a clever blacksmith of yesteryear. I know my shortcomings and my strengths, but more to the point, this means – I know yours too.

We (all of us) live in a period of time where negative thinking about yesterdays, today and tomorrows must not be allowed to win over us. We are a strong people with strong wills – when we put our minds to  it! I know this about you. All of you. It is a truth. You are more capable than you can possibly know. In fact it’s only necessary for you to “know” and believe a thing for it to become a thing.

There is an astonishingly true “might and capability” that lies within each of you. Never forget that!

We, of humanity are on a glorious quest for life – but the quest is not an easy one. Yet, it’s the best game in town and I’m happy to be a part – in whatever role I play, and wherever it leads me to be.

Thursday is a Thanksgiving Holiday in America and as William Faulkner (an American writer and Nobel Prize laureate from Oxford, Mississippi) once said about the giving of thanks and gratitude:

“Gratitude is a quality similar to electricity;
it must be produced and discharged
and used up in order to exist at all.”
– William Faulkner

.

I agree with him. Love to you all. Stand tall. Be brave, live life, give thanks and always remember you’re never alone! I (for one) am here, thinking of you with “very fond affection and good wishes” for a wonderful day and better tomorrow.

What does it say when … (the truth about cruelty to women)!

Credit line: © Tinalau | Dreamstime.com

Did you know that over half of the people on the planet are female? Did you know that almost every single child (both male and female) born from a woman, experiences their first sense of being loved from a woman? Did you know that the far majority of women on the planet are nurturers who care for and nourish the growth and development of their own children, their siblings, their partners in life and later on, their aging parents?

Did you know that most women will stand up and fight when their family’s well-being is threatened? Did you know that in more and more countries women are better educated and making a greater difference, not just at home but in the community and far beyond?

Did you know there are more images of the “beauty” of women than any other, on the planet? Did you know that some of the most beautiful and enduring poems and stories ever written – have been written about the love for a woman?

SO WHAT DOES IT SAY ABOUT OUR HUMAN SPECIES … when (according to the most recent statistics from all countries on the planet – including the “free” and progressive USA – currently trying to take away some of a woman’s rights) so what does it say when BRUTAL VIOLATIONS AGAINST WOMEN are the most ignored, tolerated and dismissed in our justice system) of any crime on our planet? (And most domestic violent cases go unreported for the same reasons)!

What does it say?

dreamstime_xs_32873334

And I guess for me, my main question is, “where, do we … (Parents, Grandparents, Brothers and Sisters, Family members, Friends, Associates, Fellow humans) … where, do we tell growing young girls they can go to be protected (from violence directed “specifically at them” because they are “females”) in life, when it’s not their home, their community or their country? Where?

….

My personal plea to you –

“There is no justifiable excuse for cruelty – None!” – PLH

“Is it perhaps time for the “silent majority” to do something about this – NOW! And do you really care enough about your Mother, Sister, Family member, Friend, Any female, to really make a difference? Or are you going to let this continue! Because it’s getting worse – guys, a whole lot worse!

And bottom Line – what does this say … about us!

Internet take me away, let virtual reality be my lover!

dreamstime_xs_18978972

Of course I don’t mean this … of course I don’t … not really. Even if almost every single person I meet online in the blogging world is so darn wonderful. What’s up with that? It’s as if part of the criteria for become a blogger much less a Word Press blogger is to be cool, caring and talented too.

I can count on being entertained, informed and certainly having a caring and listening (figuratively speaking) ear when I blog or view YouTube, tweet on Twitter, post on Google+ or Facebook, plus all the other social media places one can go today to be creatively stimulated and cared for. I can certainly become engaged in a conversation and my day enhanced through beautiful sounds and sights and thoughts and ideas, written words, beautiful photographs, musical videos, and on and on.

I mean, my rescuing knight in shining armor really is one – online (well virtually speaking). Although, now that I think about it, I miss the white horse!

whitehorse...by greyer baby

Well there you go, a beautiful while horse!

See, with our virtual world, it’s right there at our fingertips – fulfillment of a digital kind. Thank you, all you wonderful people in this online worldwide network of communications and connections! Have a great weekend everyone!

My 800th Post! Thank you and what comes next!

Credit line: © Gloria Rosazza | Dreamstime.com

Thank You! The last post I published was my 800th post and with more than 75,000 visitors in the past year, I am more honored than I can say to have received the attention, comments and support from all of you!

In the last few months I’ve seen far more visitors than ever before and I can only thank my loyal supporters who have passed the word on about my blog as the reason for this increase. That these new readers then become followers is, as I mentioned, a sincere honor.

This has become a very busy time for me as well. As a side product of blogging, I have been asked to write a book (yes, the one that I’m way late on getting the final draft ready for) but I am also very busy with a couple of other things as well.

Numerous emails from other creative individuals have given me a new money making enterprise (who knew) assisting writers, musicians and other artisans with their “works in process” (at their request), helping through the planning stages of promoting their works! (I guess having a marketing background can help, lol!)

And finally my own personal projects! One of which is more research into the roots of the writing style of haibun from an historic and artistic perspective, along with the desire to pass this information on to others. Also to have some creative fun with this. I’ll continue to write pennyquotes for “A Penny For Your Thoughts” – as the muse takes me. Regarding my other projects, I’ll keep you posted on them too!

However, as a result of all the above, I will no longer be hosting or judging for Ye Pirate’s excellent “Ligo Haibun Challenge“. Instead, information for the Ligo Haibun Challenge will be found at the new website Haven of Haibun, where I will continue to promote the Ligo Haibun Challenge activities (and of course read all the wonderful entries). I will also be posting other “haibun happenings” as I discover them! The Haven of Haibun is in it’s infancy but if you’d like to check it out – and give me a hand in shaping it’s creative direction – click here!

As for “The Why About This” blog – this is my ‘online’ home and will always present the “me” that I am. I will continue to inspire, encourage and inform … always from the hopeful perspective of trying to make a positive and creative difference for the reader.

Once again my most sincere thanks to all of you. Some so very special to me (And you do know who you are!). All my very best, keep taking care of you,

And I’ll keep doing my very best to motivate and inspire – helping you to reach your own personal goals.

A song, A reminder and a gift for you!

Sowing MiraclesA gift for you, please take and share as you like! Spread the love!

*

“When you’re worried and you can’t sleep, count your blessings … instead of sheep and you’ll fall asleep … counting your blessings!”

When all is said and done we’re just human beings. One of more than 7 billion populating our planet. We have many different beliefs, faiths, and backgrounds; where we come from, where we’re going, how we want to get there, what we want to change – but we’re still all people – every one us!

*

This week look for whats good inside each person you meet or hear about – try counting your blessings and then bless all those with whom you harbor ill feelings! When you open your heart, good things will happen!

May your week be filled with love. Bless you, one and all!

The Rest of the Story – Earth for lunch!

We do so many things today where we don’t really think about the ‘why’ of it. We think about the ‘what for’ and ‘how come’, not so much the why or …

… the rest of the story.

Here’s an example: Why do so many people frequent fast food restaurants every day? They didn’t used to. Before life became so hectic and busy (at home) they’d eat almost all their meals there, including preparing lunches to take to school or work. It was just the way it was. Connecting with the family and helping out with the meal preparation. So you’re thinking to yourself, “Oh so that’s the reason why. We’ve gotten too busy. Picking up fast food is convenient.” Well yes and no. That’s just the first part of the story.

The rest of the story has to do with how we initially felt when we stopped in at a fast food restaurant. It was fun. No work involved. yummy fat laden richness wrapped up in a treat like environment. These sensations hitting all of our “feel good” places. It was affordable, quick and pleasurable. At some point these same feelings were passed on to the next generation. Simply stated it became addictive. An easy enjoyable treat … and ‘in our minds eye” a solution to a meal.

Now it has become a part of many millions of people’s life styles. They will tell you and themselves that it is because its convenient, cheap, fast and fun but truthfully, It’s because it’s easier and it definitely (the moment it hits our addictive “feel good” center) has become a way of life, starting as soon as we’re old enough to “get it”.

The sad part is, the food is heavily processed, so as a constant diet, a very bad idea. but even more importantly we need to grow or purchase, in a market, fresh food items (to reconnect ourselves, more closely, to our interactions with the natural part of the planet we live on). Our awareness and involvement of the ecosystems (of which we are a part) is increasingly missing. And we need this connection for our health and the planet’s health as well.

We may live longer, but I don’t think most of us are happier. Many (at a young age) suffer from a variety of health complaints that didn’t exist 50 years ago. Stress not withstanding, (as it is certainly the main “killer” in our over processed life), the food we eat, where it comes from, the processing of it and our own lack of personal hands on involvement is the continuing results of the “fast food” mentality …

*… and that’s the rest of the story.

(*if these words sound familiar to any of you it’s because a very famous American radio talk show host from the 1950’s to the `90’s Paul Harvey” used these lines … as a part of his commentary. They served him well, so I’m borrowing them now. They do help to make a point!)

Have an excellent labor day today if you live in the U.S.A and a great week ahead for my friends who’ve already started their new week in our global community,

Good Day!

~ Penny
