With Eyes Wide Open – Information Technology in our lives!

By clarita

THE BAD Too much information. Too much opinion. Too little thought. Too quick to respond so you’re not making informed decisions. Too little time to allow change to happen correctly in the offline world. Too much, too fast!

THE GOOD More people connecting around the world, More people sharing, More people learning, More people reaching out to others. More is a very good thing here. An excellent thing, actually!

The good and the bad things connected with all of the instant connectivity of information in our lives is overwhelming. Throw in commercial enterprise and politics and it is absolutely impossible to know what is true and what is false. On the scary side it does seem as if everyone is selling something to someone else. Whether its a product, a service or a mindset (think politics here)!

There is really no way around the fact that each day we are overwhelmed with more information than we can reasonably assimilate.

So what to do? Easy deal. Slow things down. Turn it off. You decide for how long. A few minutes, A day, A weekend. More. It will all still be there when you return.

Connect with things outside of multimedia. This means no computers, no tv and no iphones or ipads. Now there’s a thought.

Inconceivable? I don’t think so.
Necessary, I would think so, most especially with eyes wide open.

Have great weekend!

Internet take me away, let virtual reality be my lover!

Of course I don’t mean this … of course I don’t … not really. Even if almost every single person I meet online in the blogging world is so darn wonderful. What’s up with that? It’s as if part of the criteria for become a blogger much less a Word Press blogger is to be cool, caring and talented too.

I can count on being entertained, informed and certainly having a caring and listening (figuratively speaking) ear when I blog or view YouTube, tweet on Twitter, post on Google+ or Facebook, plus all the other social media places one can go today to be creatively stimulated and cared for. I can certainly become engaged in a conversation and my day enhanced through beautiful sounds and sights and thoughts and ideas, written words, beautiful photographs, musical videos, and on and on.

I mean, my rescuing knight in shining armor really is one – online (well virtually speaking). Although, now that I think about it, I miss the white horse!

Well there you go, a beautiful while horse!

See, with our virtual world, it’s right there at our fingertips – fulfillment of a digital kind. Thank you, all you wonderful people in this online worldwide network of communications and connections! Have a great weekend everyone!

What do we do next? We bloggers, We artists, We people …

In the digital world of today … how do we not just survive but thrive?

It’s Tuesday, so what do we know today? We know we have things we have to do – And we know we have things we want to do – We know there is some information we want or need to know more about – and far more information that we don’t have a clue about (what-so-ever, except it’s messing us up a lot) because it’s too much to deal with (emotionally speaking). And “way” too much of the information is negative, isn’t it (TMI- Right?) But, there you go, the above sums things up nicely, I believe.

So what do we do next?

First, understand the nature of the online world; behind the scenes what is going on. Here’s the truth – Many (almost all) corporate/government entities are “crowd sourcing” (gathering information) to create digital profiles. In a nutshell finding out all about you. You’ve made it possible. You’re one of the hundreds of millions online exposing yourself through many little data bytes circulating the airwaves.

And the “Big Boys” of the planet want to know all about you either as a consumer (to potentially buy their product) or as a citizen of their country (How you feel about your country, the issues, your concerns the politicians, etc. Research that will help them raise money and/or potentially influence you to get your vote OR making sure you aren’t doing something subversive, detrimental to your country’s well being.)

Like it or not that is what’s going on, right now. Data collecting of a volume inconceivable for most of us to imagine and each entity (depending on the quality of their “industry cloud capability”) is efficiently organizing the data into a variety of profiles for current or future reference. Is it the big brother era? Well sort of. But we’ve made ourselves willing partners in this intrusive aspect of the online experience, whether we know it or not!

Meanwhile you’re busy doing your own gathering of information, gathering as a citizen and a consumer yourself. So how do you handle all of this information and your awareness of everyone else’s information gathering.

Short of something really bad happening (meteor strike, large solar flare, etc.) all this data is going to continue to be gathered (and much of it circulated). Just a fact and there will be lots of “talk” because that’s what talk shows (in all media – News programs, etc.) do – and much of it is negative because “viewership” (that’s you) goes up when they (talk show hosts and their “expert” guests) talk about ‘what’s wrong’.

So the talk shows are going to talk about all sorts of never-ending stuff that will complicate you life and view of things (if you listen too much) even more. But let’s forget that for right now and get back to you and where you are.

Turn your computer off and think about your goals, needs, wants and desires. Consider how you might achieve them. View online connections as “how” they may help you. Be specific here. Everyone is giving “advice”, suggestions and in many cases “selling something”. So your main focus should be why you’re on line.

  1. To be Entertained
  2. To Find out information on a subject
  3. To Buy something
  4. To Sell something
  5. Socially connect with other people
  6. Promote Yourselves (through various social networks)
  7. Use any combination of the first six reasons you’re online to assist you in accomplishing your own goals

So where you go next is to make a plan of action to more effectively use your connectivity. Arrange the above reasons and allot a time period (yes – a little discipline is required here).

  • If you’re a student researching – stick to getting the info. before you “game play” or check out the latest trending YouTube video.
  • If you’re an artist, search for “like minded” creative individuals who will help you nourish your creative goals.
  • If you’re selling something, learn about your perspective customers. And how to reach them (online and off).
  • if you’re a professional in an industry and are job searching, focus on those companies and their background so you’re well informed about the company and their goals before you submit a resume! And yes they will be using the internet to check “you out” this process can take many months – so be prepared for this one.
  • If you’re buying something (take the extra time to check out the source before your purchase – be a smart consumer.)
  • If you want to be entertained – go for it, there’s all sorts of fascinating things waiting to be viewed/listened to – out there.
  • and if you just want to “hang”, be social with others, start a blog, join Facebook, learn how to Tweet or find a social media platform that fills this need.

But don’t forget your offline world. Organize your time so your online time has a sense to it with very specific timelines.

The most important thing to do with your online world of connectivity is to stay in command of both the offline and online you. You need to stay in control of the amount of “data” your mind allows entry to. Integrate this brave new world of communication so it works for you on your adventures through life … not against you!

Have a great day,

Going Bananas

Aha! Gotcha, this isn’t what the title suggests at all, or actually this is precisely what the title suggests. It is a blog about the fruit – Banana.  This is a fun and health post about one of my favorite fruits – the common ordinary everyday banana. Hopefully you will leave here today with a little more knowledge about a very simple yummy and delicious fruit.

That yellow thing you peel and eat, the banana, is a fruit. Here in America we eat more bananas than apples and oranges combined. In some parts of the world, bananas keep millions of people alive.

Although extremely popular, the banana is mysterious; nobody knows how they evolved or from where they originated. Cultural lore suggests that in ancient translations of the Bible, the “apple” consumed by Eve is actually a banana. Entire Central American nations have been said to rise and fall over the banana.

To me, the saddest thing about the banana of today is whether it will survive. As the result of commercial enterprise the (Cavandish) banana with its very own specific reproductive system, is a genetic duplicate of the next, and therefore all are susceptible to the same blights. Today’s yellow banana is increasingly threatened and there is as yet no cure.

In the past year, scientists began focusing on the banana varieties still found in nature. Wild bananas can still reproduce by seeds and are constantly confronted with fungi. It is the hope of researchers to discover resistance genes that can be transferred to the now seedless varieties.

When it comes to nutrition, Bananas reign.  They are rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber – A source of energy. They contain iron, which helps those suffering from anemia. Iron stimulates the growth of hemoglobin in the body. Bananas contain potassium; reducing high blood pressure and preventing bone loss by lessening the damage done by foods containing high levels of sodium/salts (found in the typical modern American diet). Vitamin B6 also helps to balance blood-glucose levels, reducing mood swings often associated with PMS.

Bananas are excellent for those suffering with ulcers, as they can help lower gastric juice levels and build a protective coating in the stomach and in reducing heartburn symptoms.
Bananas contain tryptophan, serotonin and norepinephrine, which can lessen depression and also help a person to relax. The B vitamins found in bananas help calm and soothe the nervous system, vitamin B6 in particular which can reduce the symptoms of irritability and sleeplessness. Bananas are an excellent first choice for solid food for infants, as they are easily digestible and non-allergic.

Bananas also help to lessen cravings for sugar and other unhealthy sweet snacks. They are helpful in preventing age-related macular degeneration and strokes. Even the peels serve a few useful purposes. They make a great fertilizer in the garden, especially for roses. Bury a few peels near the bush, and the peels will normally cause the roses to thrive. Pimples can be dried out naturally by rubbing the inside of the banana peel on the affected area on the skin.

I snapped this photograph looking down inside before removing the ice cream!

As for myself, I love bananas. They are the first item that goes into my fruit smoothies. I also use them as creatively as possible in other dishes. Recently I happened upon something new and different – Banana Ice Cream, truly unique because the only ingredient in the ice cream is the banana, nothing else. I think it’s one of the few foods that one can make ice cream without having to add any other ingredients.

I tried this for myself. Save up those bananas that are beginning to be not quite but almost too ripe to eat. Peel the banana, cut into small bite size pieces, place on a tray and freeze for a few hours.

Remove from the tray and place the banana pieces in a powerful blender or mixer. And blend. Add only a few pieces at a time. This does take a while.

There is enough fat in the banana and water that has been frozen in the bananas along with the natural sugar that by blending it long enough you end up with “Banana Ice Cream”.

If you love bananas you’ll love this healthy treat! The taste is so incredibly ice cold creamy and yummy it really is banana ice cream!

Hope everyone enjoyed my post today If you love bananas try the ice cream. It is delicious!

Have a happy, healthy day today, Penny

Exploring the World of Bloggers

You may have noticed that my last few posts have been reblogs. Just couldn’t help myself. I have spent the last few days exploring other blogger sites and viewing into their creative and often inspirational world via the blogging social network. I have been visiting all over the world. How wonderful is that!

I don’t know about the rest of you but I am fascinated by where all of you other bloggers, my online friends live, and how far from me (geographically speaking) that location is.

Each day I check my flag counter to see if any new flags have shown up indicating I have a potential new friend somewhere in the world I’ve not been to before (online).

There was a very popular song in a commercial that came out some years ago by a HUGE beverage company that I won’t name (copyright and trademark infringement) But it became very popular because the song alluded to the world and being in perfect harmony (Anybody got any guesses on who that company is, lol?) To me the blogging world comes very close to epitomizing this wish!

This is truly one of the things I have come to enjoy about this unique blogging world. It really is the whole world. The planet we all reside in. Our world. We the citizens of this planet have this most wonderful way to connect instantly to one another. We share our thoughts and dreams, ideas and concerns, and of course our creative talents – receiving love and encouragement from one another while we do so. I JUST LOVE IT! The whole complete experience of connecting with others regardless of where they live!

So, a quick thank you to those who follow me,a thank you to those I follow and I am looking forward to meeting all the rest of you as soon as may be. (estimates suggest that there are roughly 180 million+ blog sites around this world of more than 7 billion inhabitants! Just to put this in perspective here! )

Thanks again to all who blog, I greatly appreciate the richness and variety of creativity that each and every one of you represent! Sharing with each of you fills my heart with gladness and renewed hope for our planets future!

The Way of The Word

(hear the tinkling sound of Zen type music in the background)

The wordiness of words is a special thing.

Wordology is the science of developing and organizing words relating to a specific subject matter in an informative, easy-to-read and intelligent way.

It can also mean the art of assimilating and disseminating any information in the written form, in an original and logical manner.

Now pay attention here. This is important stuff! Words are important. I am writing them right now. If I were there with you I’d be speaking to you with words. What we write has meaning to us, presumably. Or we would not write it down, but the thing is … words are more than words … (I thought that was a brilliant quote). Words are a means of communicating that which we wish to communicate and even more, they are the means by which we convey our inner most thoughts.

So where am I going with all of this? It should be perfectly obvious. Every blogger on the planet is a Wordologist (of course) plain as day, crystal clear and so on. Who knew? We are specialists within our own field. How Cool Is That!

We stand alone! Apart from! Distinct! Unique! Our own Person. Original. One of a Kind. I could continue on but then I’d exceed the number of words that make a blog page agreeable to those kind enough to visit.

Now that I’ve used what is just the right amount of wordiness, I am well satisfied with my words of the day. I most sincerely hope that you figured out at some point that there is no such word as wordology, although there are those online who have fun with it. I thought it an apt discription for bloggers so decided to have some fun with it. That being said I’ll end this on a high note!

Keep smiling everyone! Make today a good one!
