Herbert the Dragon’s Lesson in Life

“Honestly, I don’t know what the big deal is?” The little dragon said, crouched in the most submissive position he could think of. The last thing he needed right now was to tick his mom off even more.

“We ALWAYS play nice with humans, Herbert.” His mom said sternly.

“But it was just one little bite,” Herbert whined. “I don’t know why I have to be grounded on account of a stupid bite.”

His mother sighed. “You’ll learn little one. One bite leads to another and before you know it, humans begin to taste good. And then your addicted. One is not ever enough!”

“Well this human didn’t taste good at all!” He said with a disgusted look.

“Good, because eating humans is not a smart thing. The fatty cholesterol in their body clogs our pores and you can get very sick. Haven’t you ever wondered where the rest of the dragons went?”

Since Herbert had been curious about what had happened to most of his species he nodded.

“They got sick and died from humanitis, so avoid them if you can, but if you do decide to play with more humans, for goodness sake … no biting!

“… Exercise your “forgiveness” muscle every day!” PennyQuote

Our animals seem to have it down pat. We still need to work on this exercise – a whole lot more!

Unconditional love … yeah … that’s the ticket!

Hold On, People Everywhere!

Koala - Copy

*

If I hold on … real tight,

If I think thoughts so bright,

if I smile with a might,

I just may get it right …

… those things that I try for today!

*

If I dwell on the good things,

that which makes hearts sing,

fear and doubt will then take wing,

happiness and wisdom may bring,

… those things that I try for today!

Addendum to famous Quotes … That which does not kill us …

“That which does not kill us, makes us stronger.”

Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900)

~

While Nietzche’s words are true, I just felt he left a little something out so …

Addendum to his quote: “However it is also certain we will

get chewed up, quite a bit, during the process of survival

… stay away from the teeth!”

Everyone be careful, but have a great weekend. Remember to have some fun!

Curiosity – The Longevity Factor!

Being Curious does make a difference in life!

Alexander Imich

“The compensation for dying is that I will
learn all the things I was not able to
learn here on earth” ~ Alexander Imich, 2014

Meet Alexander Imich. Yesterday was his birthday he’s 111 years old. Officially the oldest man in the world. He attributes his long life to his never-ending curious nature, in spite of all the adversity he has lived through. Read the excellent interview by David Luke of the Daily Grail here.

But wait a minute, as of this writing there are 65 individuals older than him. And they’re all women! Which begs the question – Are we (women) more curious than our opposite gender counterparts, or are we just better at surviving?

Something to ponder.

Hope your week started out well for you. Thank you for stopping by. A prayer of well-being for the safety and safe return to their homes to all the kidnapped girls in Africa.

The Dichotomy of Hope – A Haibun for our Tomorrows.

Funny thing about “Hope”. It is both fragile beyond imagining and yet often has a tenacity and strength seemingly unbelievable.

How can this be?

Perhaps an analogy made with a puffball, to enlighten.

A Wish upon a Puffball – One single seed!

Fingers carefully grasped the fragile puffball’s stem, not wanting to disturb the ethereal seeds too soon. My wish might not be heard, but blown away. The wish made, I blew gently, scattering the fair dandelion seeds upon moist morning breezes.

Wishful thinking indeed for hopes to be realized, yet all that is needed for the puffball is but a single seed. A lone survivor tossed in the unpredictable winds of nature. It only takes one … one seed to reach the earth for regrowth and fruition.

And so it is with hope. A seed of potential and possibility, cast upon the winds of fortune.

May our hopes, dreams and wishes reach fruition. All that is needed is one single seed!

hope strengthens me

a most delicate framework

of possibilities

Have a great day today and even better tomorrow,

Thank you for stopping by,

Celebrate Earth Day – Be green!

Grasshopper Posing!

He sat there posing so nicely, I couldn’t resist. This is a photograph taken last summer. I stepped outside and there he was …ready for his close-up, so I obliged.

~

And then I was reminded of this scene from a television show. Master ‘Po’ is teaching a student ‘Caine’, in a monastery, a lesson:

Master Po: Close your eyes. What do you hear?
Young Caine: I hear the water, I hear the birds.
Po: Do you hear your own heartbeat?
Caine: No.
Po: Do you hear the grasshopper which is at your feet?
Caine: Old man, how is it that you hear these things?
Po: Young man, how is it that you do not?

I wonder what we miss because we aren’t really listening? Our planet is calling to us. Do you here her?

Thanks for stopping by, have a great Earth Day!
