The Sound of Hurtful Silence

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil

It hurts … inside of me. Why has a country I am so proud of become so accepting of rude and crude behavior within both our social and news media?

I understand one can be angry about circumstances and situations. I can relate to the unfairness we see witnessed on many occasions. But the constant unrelenting barrage of rude and crude language and behavior is not needed and it makes of us so much less than what I know us (Americans) to be.

In the past handful of years, I first thought it was an anomaly occurring on social media with just a few indulging in profanity and boorish behavior. And then I began noticing more and more of the same along with intense verbal bullying and the degradation of an individual or a group. With each passing day I am witnessing even more of this same breakdown in what should be common respect and courtesy: Lack of moral fiber, the inability to say something without reducing the subject matter to the most base of terminology. And this is happening in both social and the public news media.

Many of those who do not engage in this behavior act as if it doesn’t exist. There is no moral outrage being expressed, just a pretended ignorance – this is so very sad. It says that we (the people) would rather accept this behavior than be vocal about the wrongness of it, for I am convinced that much of the negative emotions being felt and expressed in our daily lives are directly related to the universal acceptance of completely unacceptable social behavior.

Silence can be a good thing but it can also be a very bad thing when wrong behavior is happening and the majority of people pretend to ignore it, thereby making it acceptable. And whether it’s a popular celebrity or a politician (and an especial shame on them as their behavior is often emulated by those in the private sector) or we private citizens, the results are the same.

Small wonder our current political arena is such a mess. There is almost no dignity, only mud slinging and filthy rhetoric which as we all know is incredibly exhausting to us, leaving many indecisive, confused and fearful.

Public media (both social and news) should be about  people informing each other with information, and or an exchange of thoughts, ideas and feelings being expressed in terminology that is not degrading and disgusting.

My spirit is sad at this continuing painful and negative turn in the daily events of our lives. I am hopeful it changes and that each of us begin to accept a part of the responsibility for allowing this to not only happen but to fester, growing into the nasty beast it has become.

Thank you,

~ Penny

Beginning of the week – A good time for the beginning of a new mindset!

A little reflection over the weekend and it dawned on me, that each of us (more or less) are partially responsible for the mess the planet is in right now. We really are. In our free country of the USA we take so much for granted. In fact children are being taught (by adult example) that it’s okay to take … and take … and take! Greed is a popular icon here as well as in many other “civilized?” countries which accomplishes nothing but more greed!

Time for a new mindset. We really don’t need so much “stuff”. It would be great if we spent more time caring for each other and the natural world we all inhabit while it’s still habitable. Healthier and happier people would make for a healthier and happier environment and economy. Not the other way around. People (all life) and their well being need to come first!

And in this country and any other country where you can vote (even if some politicians are making it harder for you) it is still your responsibility to VOTE. If you don’t like what the politicians are doing, then vote them out of office.. Your country, your government. Your responsibility. Don’t play the blame game with pointed fingers and words but do nothing to assist in bringing about change!

“Personal responsibility and our planet’s sustainability

must go hand in hand for the needed change to truly happen!”

For my very dear friend of Scotland – “Cuddle Doon”.

IMAG4128-1

Politics seem to always figure into the scheme of things, be they Nay or Yay. There are the Scots who are happy for the decision to remain a part of the United Kingdom and there are those who are very unhappy by the decision.

Having met an outstanding individual from Scotland, I humbly offer the following words “It is impossible and inconceivable to take Scotland out of a Scot. Just as it be impossible to take the poetic out of the Poet. The following is the last two stanzas by Alexander Anderson’s (of Scotland) poem Cuddle Doon.

“…An’ just afore we bed oorsels,

We look at our wee lambs’;
Tam has his airm roun’ wee Rab’s neck,
And Rab his airm round Tam’s.
I lift wee Jamie up the bed,
An’ as I straik each croon,
I whisper, till my heart fills up,
“Oh bairnies, cuddle doon.”

The bairnies cuddle doon at nicht
Wi’ mirth that’s dear to me;
But soon the big warl’s car an’ care
Will quaten doon their glee.
Yet, come what will to ilka ane,
May he who rules aboon
Aye whisper, though their pows be bald,
“Oh barnies, cuddle doon.”

~ Alexander Anderson, 1845 – 1909

When you are of Scotland, you will always be of Scotland, not geographic political borders nor treaties will change that fact!

All my love to B.

The Awesome Diversity of USA – Take Kentucky for example!

PrawnyWhy I love my Country

The diversity of America is really quite amazing . Each state is unique and special within itself. But many of our wonderful states and their residents are struggling. Change needs to happen. In government, fewer politics (and rhetoric) and more action is needed. Right now, there are a handful of states where change may be possible with midterm elections later this year. One of those states is good ol’ bluegrass Kentucky.

There are some important things going on in our country right now, and we women are right there in the mix along with the men. Helping positive change happen isn’t about feminism or equality as much as it is about accepting differences to improve All of our well being. We (everyone) Americans need to be out there making things happen to improve our chances for a better future for ourselves and our children.

Hats off to Kentucky’s Secretary of State, Alison Lundergan Grimes. Not because she’s a Democrat, (I’m a political agnostic, LOL actually what I mean is I am an American first and foremost – which means that sometimes it isn’t about a political party and it’s agenda but about us “We the people”. So wherever positive change is happening, that’s what gets my vote. Whether it be by a Liberal or a Conservative) – and I think most Americans feel the same way.

What’s important to me is having a prosperous country for as many of us as possible. For the hard working: a decent wage. For the families: a home and community to be proud of. For the children: a decent education (that doesn’t cost a fortune) for their future. And a safe place to be – for the elderly and all of us. And it looks like Alison, over there (I’m in Washington) in Kentucky is concerned about those things – and not the money behind many of the current decisions made by our politicians.

It sounds like she’s speaking out and wanting to make a difference in her home state. She’s qualified and has something positive to bring to the mix. I’m rooting for all those just like her, who are standing up and being heard because they believe it’s time to take action, because they care … for their home state and the people (like you and I) of the United States of America. So three cheers and this song is for you Allison!

Keep up the good work! As one American to another, I’m behind you all the way!

A Caring citizen of the U.S.A,

Love – nothing is more important!

My favorite word in the whole vocabulary of all the languages on our planet is Love. It means the same thing no matter where you are. Love is universal.  It sums everything up. Just this one word!

It brightens the day, makes the impossible seem possible. The bad – not so bad and is the very foundation that hope rests upon … the one word … LOVE!

I send love to everyone today. It is an especially hard Monday/Tuesday today for many many millions of people on our planet, Both nationally and abroad.

Perhaps, today, we can point a few less fingers, blame a few less people, think not so many petty, selfish or greedy thoughts and instead think about love and loving! I guess news “talk show hosts” are getting paid (now, when they voice their opinions) to say and broadcast petty and mean things and  …

Politically speaking (USA), my message to all of you politicians out there is … GROW UP, you are all acting like spoiled children (all parties) instead of responsible, polite and well-mannered individuals. Our government will always have those with varying agendas but NO ONE has to be mean (nasty) during discussions and the manner in which they conduct their public activities.

The three main political parties in this country are Republicans, Independents and Democrats and since acronyms have become so popular please note that the acronym for these three parties is R.I.D., which is how many Americans are starting to feel about you and how you’ve been governing in Congress. so STOP IT!

Do you job. Get it done, but with the dignity and honor that your position deserves. And another thing, Our President is the duly elected President of our United (all of them) States and as such Dignity and Honor should be extended to him as well, or our current political parties are really of no value to us Americans any more. And getting rid of the current political parties (R.I.D.) might be the best way to change things!

Life is too short (yours included) for the behavior I and millions of others witness daily (while nothing is getting done) and ALL AMERICANS ARE SICK OF IT!)

Most especially when now we should be seeing what we can accomplish together as a UNITED States of America (and yes there are 50 states, not one or two or 13) and not the horrible nastiness that we’ve been exposed to.

We need jobs, an improved infrastructure, fairness and equality but mostly we need a HUGE change in attitude and how we conduct ourselves.

We are all of various ethnic, genders and backgrounds (every single one of us) and we are all citizens but when bad weather hits anywhere, then we are reminded that which we should be ALL THE TIME! Human beings in need of love and support and each other – and nothing else is more important than that! Nothing!

Hello November – Let’s make it a good one!

foto

For parts of the planet the weather is definitely getting colder. For other parts it is balmy and lovely! (I must admit to being a little bit envious for the warmth in those areas.)

It is Monday for most of us, Tuesday for some and a new week and month has begun.

What can we do to improve our day and those days ahead?

Well it isn’t going to be easy, is it? I mean, how can you determine the truth of what’s going on in the world around you sorting through the “heaps and heaps” of untruths, half-truths and play ol’ runaway insanity we are inundated with each day.

Common Sense

So here’s a thought. How about for starters, we use our common sense! For example “all commercials and advertisements” you are viewing online (regardless of what type of mechanical device you are using) – are there for the sole purpose of enticing you to buy something! (Always – No Exceptions, here!) So keep this in mind. Not just as a consumer but as an individual concerned for you and your family’s well-being.

Don’t buy into a “story” no matter how compelling because it’s “trending”. Use common sense. If you’re in a state (USA) where you’ll be voting the same logic should apply. Don’t “vote” just to vote. If you don’t understand the issue (you should) take the time to learn about it. Ditto with those who are running for a public office. Common Sense is an amazing tool when we take the time to use it.

legacyLegacy?

Yes, ‘Common Sense’ is absolutely better then ‘Omnipotent Hindsight’ which is how most opinions (we read about) are formed today – after the fact (spreading like wildfire) rather than securing needed information first – when the ‘actually facts’ can be of much needed value!

What is your ‘common sense’ quotient? Give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised yourself, with how effective this tool can be for you!

Have a good November, make ‘common sense’ your new “norm”. And who knows? It might actually trend its way into some of the areas where common sense is sorely needed (because it’s obviously missing completely in those places).

Happy week to all, Stay balanced (with lots of love thrown in)! And never, never forget –

I’m just one American – A letter to the President of our great country, USA!

“Dear Mr. President Obama,

This is Penny, yes one of your constituents. I’m having a problem right now, along with most of us other 300 million citizens.

I’m just one American out here in Washington state … but I’m worried. I’m hoping you can help me understand what’s going on.

As I was taught (in school) about the governing process (in our democratic country), our wise founding fathers  set up a counter system of checks and balances to make sure that each branch could (if needs be) check the actions of others. This was done to insure that no part of the government had too much power.

And as I understand it, each of our elected representative’s main job is …

DEFINITION OF Elected Representatives (Senators, Congressmen): Those individuals voted to REPRESENT their local constituents (me and others)

… to help (the duly elected (voted for) TWICE President of the U.S.A. – that’s you) GOVERN our country.

“So WHY, Mr. President is one tiny group of Elected Representatives (see definition up above) in fact one person in particular … holding our Government and the people of the Great United States of America hostage?

Usurping his own elected position by carrying out his own private agenda at the wishes of a very few other people. And doing this at the expense of the American people – BY STOPPING THE GOVERNING PROCESS ITSELF!

Please, answer me. I need an answer. More to the point, I need you the chosen leader of this country to figure out what to do! Soon!”

Thank you,
Very troubled in Washington,
Penny L Howe

(Just Penny’s “two cents” worth here)

… and yes I am fully cognizant and aware (politically) of what’s ‘actually’ going on, how it happened, and why. I am being focused with my letter to the President to create (hopefully) a stronger message! I love my country and fellow Americans (all of you) very much, Thanks, Penny
