Are you aging or “getting old” … Boomer Bloggers!

Its time to start rethinking the “Obsolescence of Value” because of Age!

Statistically speaking, it is amazing how many are aging on this planet – right now! In many countries on our planet, almost one third of the population is over the age of 50.

Take the United Kingdom for example: in a report called Later Life in the United Kingdom (released August, 2013), the one third percentage holds true. There are more people aged 60 and above than there are under the age of 18.

55% of those surveyed considered themselves in the getting old category. They believe age discrimination exists, and that as you age, you are treated more as a child and they feel the country fails to make good use of the skills and talents of older people. In many countries this is a universal truth.

Let’s look at another country. According to the United States Census Bureau’s World and USA population clock there are roughly 316,500,000 citizens in this country (right now). And the largest age group in that number are those that are 50 and older! More than 100 million! Do the math!

In the two largest countries on the planet, China and India the aging populations are (the research was a little more complicated) in China, there are roughly 194 million people over the age of 60. This number is predicted to increase to 440 million by 2050. India, according to the India Demographics Profile, has approximately 150 million over the age of 50.

In Russian, Europe, Japan, Australia and South America we find the same number of increased aging statistics. We are living longer, everywhere. But we haven’t changed our mindset on how we view older humans. It’s long past time to do so.

The aging human being brings a wealth of experience and potential wisdom to the mix. Many who are retiring are still active and I believe with the right incentives would continue to play a role and involvement in the workforce, their local community and country. In turn giving them a purpose that would strengthen their own resolve to stay healthier.

Remember, these numbers aren’t going away, in fact they are increasing daily. This substantial group of people could make a positive difference in the economic climate we currently find ourselves.

What can we do?

Let’s start with how you view yourself or an aging relative or friend. Mindset is everything! Getting old seems to imply being sickly, incompetent and needy. Certainly that is true for some, but not the many … Not yet anyway!

The dynamic potential that would happen by encouraging a re-emergence from the talent, knowledge, and experience of the “aging population” is unimaginable and (which btw is responsible for many of the technological creations and advancements being used today by us all) … so very doable and possible!

Think about it!

Emotional Media Coordinator

(Fictional piece and commentary)

The Setting: An executive office of an International News (muti-media) Channel! Two executives having a private conversation.

“What do you think?”

“I think it’s brilliant. Why hasn’t someone thought of this before?”

“You know how ideas are, they’re just suddenly there!”

“So, have you found the person to fill this new position yet?”

“No, I have a few excellent prospects though. But I need to be extremely careful in the selection of this person. He or she will have a lot of control!”

“Well, I can understand that. You’ve settled on the name “Emotional Media Coordinator” then?”

“Yes, has a nice sound to it, don’t you think? This person will single-handedly train the first group of EMC’s Emotional Media Coordinators, whose sole task will be to follow our daily ratings and inform our media centers when they need to change the emotional mix of news being presented.

When the ratings are up they’ll send the message to include some “upbeat and fun” happenings in the news, or perhaps some “new goings on in the science/art etc world. When the ratings begin to drop the Coordinators will send the message to play up the ‘negative news’ . You know, political happenings, disasters, scary things happening, ha, ha, lots of that out there! In the final analysis we will have our thumb on the emotional pulse of our viewers manipulatung their feelings so they’ll want to ‘stay tuned’, as it were!”

“I know we’ve already been doing that, generally speaking, but having a specific group to review, analyse and determine what we broadcast, and when, based on the numbers will really be a boost to our ratings.”

“Yes I’m sure it will. It’ll allow our “people” to “know” the type of content to show as well as how to emotionally present it to the public! This is just excellent.” The future is looking better and better – at least from my view of things – ha, ha, ha, get it … view of things … ha, ha, ha!”

~

This was a piece of fiction. Anyone surmising that this might actually be going on is … well happily entitled to their own opinions! They are your own opinions aren’t they? Well of course they are, Right? And just so you know I’m not biased, News reporters are people too!

Exploring the World of Bloggers

You may have noticed that my last few posts have been reblogs. Just couldn’t help myself. I have spent the last few days exploring other blogger sites and viewing into their creative and often inspirational world via the blogging social network. I have been visiting all over the world. How wonderful is that!

I don’t know about the rest of you but I am fascinated by where all of you other bloggers, my online friends live, and how far from me (geographically speaking) that location is.

Each day I check my flag counter to see if any new flags have shown up indicating I have a potential new friend somewhere in the world I’ve not been to before (online).

There was a very popular song in a commercial that came out some years ago by a HUGE beverage company that I won’t name (copyright and trademark infringement) But it became very popular because the song alluded to the world and being in perfect harmony (Anybody got any guesses on who that company is, lol?) To me the blogging world comes very close to epitomizing this wish!

This is truly one of the things I have come to enjoy about this unique blogging world. It really is the whole world. The planet we all reside in. Our world. We the citizens of this planet have this most wonderful way to connect instantly to one another. We share our thoughts and dreams, ideas and concerns, and of course our creative talents – receiving love and encouragement from one another while we do so. I JUST LOVE IT! The whole complete experience of connecting with others regardless of where they live!

So, a quick thank you to those who follow me,a thank you to those I follow and I am looking forward to meeting all the rest of you as soon as may be. (estimates suggest that there are roughly 180 million+ blog sites around this world of more than 7 billion inhabitants! Just to put this in perspective here! )

Thanks again to all who blog, I greatly appreciate the richness and variety of creativity that each and every one of you represent! Sharing with each of you fills my heart with gladness and renewed hope for our planets future!
