Herbert the Dragon’s Lesson in Life

“Honestly, I don’t know what the big deal is?” The little dragon said, crouched in the most submissive position he could think of. The last thing he needed right now was to tick his mom off even more.

“We ALWAYS play nice with humans, Herbert.” His mom said sternly.

“But it was just one little bite,” Herbert whined. “I don’t know why I have to be grounded on account of a stupid bite.”

His mother sighed. “You’ll learn little one. One bite leads to another and before you know it, humans begin to taste good. And then your addicted. One is not ever enough!”

“Well this human didn’t taste good at all!” He said with a disgusted look.

“Good, because eating humans is not a smart thing. The fatty cholesterol in their body clogs our pores and you can get very sick. Haven’t you ever wondered where the rest of the dragons went?”

Since Herbert had been curious about what had happened to most of his species he nodded.

“They got sick and died from humanitis, so avoid them if you can, but if you do decide to play with more humans, for goodness sake … no biting!

Autumn – the leaf sprite

lleaf sprite -

The Leaf Sprite

A swirling flurried arrival, her Autumn entrance known to all,

Burnishing hosts of tossing leaves in multicolored hues of fall.

Golden rich her nature – sharing yellows, reds and brown,

‘Midst cooling crisp fall mornings, the leaf sprite makes her rounds.

A very lovely Sunday/Monday to all. For those in the world enjoying a change to cooler weather, I wish you a gorgeous autumn day!

Bless us all for the richness which nature provides us daily, we must protect her!

Penny’s Safe House – The DomeHome Safety Zone!

 DomeHomeDome Home – Safety Zone

Is there such a place?

In my imagination there is.

You can see I created (on my notepad) a DomeHome!

Weather-wise, not ideal (I prefer warm climes to cold) but considering most people feel the same, I have a high level of confidence that my DomeHome, my Safety Zone, will be high, literally! And I have a hydroponic temperature controlled greenhouse to produce the food I need, too cool (again literally) right? Did you see the thermo-controlled swimming pool? A nice touch I thought.

So there you have it. My DomeHome situated far from the maddening crowd. Now I am aware of all the melting going on up there in the Arctic, so if needs be I will be prepared to move my DomeHome to Antarctica. They have lots of penguins there to keep me company, again – too cool!

What do you think?

Will it catch on – Hope not! That would defeat the whole purpose.

Stay safe, stay cool, have an excellent week ahead! Remember to laugh and have fun!

With Affection,

~ Penny

Many think we’ll run out of time because our lives are too short to do what needs to be done; to change what needs to change to make humanity (in its entirety) the best that we can be.

But I don’t believe it!

Thank you. Hope this week is being good to you,

The Big Dream: Ten Days of Happiness, Day 1

*

dreamstime_xs_28084676

Once upon a special time, there passed a great decree
There would be ten days of love for thee and thou and me.

*

On the first day of happiness, a smile upon my face

I send a loving greeting filled with warmth and grace.

To all who live upon this earth who share with me this day

I wish you all the very best in every single way!

Don’t be Afraid of Living

Female by Penny L Howe, 2013

“Female” by Penny L Howe, 2013

There are many things to be afraid of

I’ve confronted a few in my day,

The Sun may not rise

the moon may not set

or things will not go my way.

.

The boogie man hiding under my bed

gave childhood nights filled with fear,

But what really terrified

during those scary times

was when no parents were near.

.

Don’t be afraid of living

For this is your time here on earth,

make the most of your day

give thanks ‘long the way’

for the blessing that was your birth.

.

For most of us what really scares us

isn’t a truth or a fact,

But our worries and fears

accumulated through years

Of what we don’t have or we lack.

.

Fear can be a mind killer, you know,

But it comes with a choice that is yours

you can stay paralyzed

and never realize

you can move on and open new doors.

.

Life is all about living

And no, there is no guarantee,

But with the will to survive

you still can thrive

That’s life – how it’s meant to be!

.

There isn’t a magic formula

well maybe … maybe just one,

each waking day

give big thanks and say

I BELIEVE that things will go my way!

(and then really believe it)

My 800th Post! Thank you and what comes next!

Credit line: © Gloria Rosazza | Dreamstime.com

Thank You! The last post I published was my 800th post and with more than 75,000 visitors in the past year, I am more honored than I can say to have received the attention, comments and support from all of you!

In the last few months I’ve seen far more visitors than ever before and I can only thank my loyal supporters who have passed the word on about my blog as the reason for this increase. That these new readers then become followers is, as I mentioned, a sincere honor.

This has become a very busy time for me as well. As a side product of blogging, I have been asked to write a book (yes, the one that I’m way late on getting the final draft ready for) but I am also very busy with a couple of other things as well.

Numerous emails from other creative individuals have given me a new money making enterprise (who knew) assisting writers, musicians and other artisans with their “works in process” (at their request), helping through the planning stages of promoting their works! (I guess having a marketing background can help, lol!)

And finally my own personal projects! One of which is more research into the roots of the writing style of haibun from an historic and artistic perspective, along with the desire to pass this information on to others. Also to have some creative fun with this. I’ll continue to write pennyquotes for “A Penny For Your Thoughts” – as the muse takes me. Regarding my other projects, I’ll keep you posted on them too!

However, as a result of all the above, I will no longer be hosting or judging for Ye Pirate’s excellent “Ligo Haibun Challenge“. Instead, information for the Ligo Haibun Challenge will be found at the new website Haven of Haibun, where I will continue to promote the Ligo Haibun Challenge activities (and of course read all the wonderful entries). I will also be posting other “haibun happenings” as I discover them! The Haven of Haibun is in it’s infancy but if you’d like to check it out – and give me a hand in shaping it’s creative direction – click here!

As for “The Why About This” blog – this is my ‘online’ home and will always present the “me” that I am. I will continue to inspire, encourage and inform … always from the hopeful perspective of trying to make a positive and creative difference for the reader.

Once again my most sincere thanks to all of you. Some so very special to me (And you do know who you are!). All my very best, keep taking care of you,

And I’ll keep doing my very best to motivate and inspire – helping you to reach your own personal goals.

Happy thoughts to comfort and warm you!

While drinking my first cup of coffee this morning, I began to actually notice the things around me. The vividly blue sky, the chill air outdoors, (signaling the change in seasons).  and as I noticed each thing, I decided today was a good day to spend dwelling on happy thoughts to comfort and warm – so when the stress of the day’s activities began to build, I’d have happy thoughts to sustain me.

So here’s a few (happy thoughts) to share as we move closer to the weekend:

“We are part of the digital world. This means we can instantly send happy thoughts, such as saying thank you, I love you, hugs, kisses, thinking of you, I think you’re wonderful, and we can even take a little bit of time to “create something”  whenever the happy mode takes us, and share it with others!”

.*.

“And even though we are a part of the technologically enhanced world, we can still only be in the current day. Make the most of today – it’s the one your actually living in. It’s ‘your day’ to make of it what you will!”

.*.

“The sweetest thought I can think of right now is how much I enjoy my online and offline connections with family & friends and how incredibly lucky I am to have both!”

*

Have a good Thursday/Friday, remember to think lots of happy thoughts!

A happy, colorful and snugly photograph to leave you with!
